The screwdriver-friendly PC-Q50 - available here in black - from Lian Li does not resemble any other case from Lian Li, at least in terms of its exterior and size. Rather, this simple and elegant case is designed to be used horizontally, although it can be used vertically as well. In basic terms, the Taiwan-based manufacturer generally cleaves to the traditional elements of their aluminium cases. After all, it's not without good reason that Asia is the biggest producer and consumer of aluminium cases in the world.
The PC-Q50 is small and compact with a height (vertical) of just 28.5 cm. The case's ventilation is provided courtesy of the large mesh inserts in the front, top and bottom as well as on one side of the cube. When set up horizontally, the surfaces form the front and sides respectively. With its versatile mesh openings, the PC-Q50 is designed from the ground up for active ventilation and already comes with a fan pre-installed - a 120 mm fan in fact, which helps provide ventilation at the top (when set up in the vertical orientation). Due to the largely solid sides, which in turn form the top and bottom sides when set up horizontally, the case looks extremely elegant - almost as if it were made of a single piece, irrespective of how exactly it is set up.
As with all cases from Lian Li, the PC-Q50 is made entirely of aluminium. This enables the case to have a low overall weight and yet be extremely strong and stable at the same time. Moreover, the looks of the case also benefit from the brushed aluminium structure, meaning that the case looks right at home in any sophisticated multimedia environment.
The front of the case is reduced to the absolute essentials, accommodating a centrally positioned power button. The I/O panel with its two USB 3.0 Type A ports and one USB 3.1 Type C port as well as two audio connectors that are located on the top or the right side, depending on how the case is set up. Thus, they do not get in the way of the incredibly clean and tidy appearance of the case while remaining accessible at all times.
The interior of the PC-Q50 includes space for two 3.5" drives in the drive cage. Two additional 2.5" drives may be installed on the side wall. The case is designed for the use of power supplies that are up to 160 mm and hold to the SFX form factor. The case allows for up to 140 mm of space for the CPU cooler. The graphics card may be up to 320 mm long and 140 mm wide. The case includes two expansion slots.
