StaggeringI fitted the Xonar Essence ST into an old, very low spec PC and installed OpenELEC XBMC to use it as a Media Centre. The result was totally astounding. It booted in just a few seconds and there were no drivers to install. The sound quality exceeded my £2500 CD player, which I've now decided to sell.20/03/2013

Fantastic sound cardI just want to say anyone on the fence about this card would be just to go for it.
Its a fantastic sound card.
At first I didn't notice much difference in the sound compared to my old Soundblaster Xtreme Gamer but then I noticed that music was so much clearer and some songs that I didn't like before I now liked because the music just sounded much better.
I have it connected to my Kenwood HiFi Amp and I can now turn the sound all the way up with NO distortion at all.
I was going to buy the Xfi Titanium but decided to go for overall sound quality instead.

GorgeousI exclusively use a quality pair of headphones with my PC so this card was a bit of a no brainer.

Great for gaming, great for watching movies, but music is where it shines the most.

Team it with a good pair of headphones around the same sort of price and you will love it.

I used to use an Asus Xonar D2X (until I damaged it) and they are nice, this is noticeably better.

If you want quality hi-fi audio go for it, but it's at it's best when used with headphones.8 User found this Review usefullhelpful Review? Yes

Even better than expectedWas a bit dubious about the difference it would make. But I can tell you now that it has made my sound system come alive! In the end i went for the st over the stx as the st can have the additional addon board, the 'h6', for analouge surround sound.7 User found this Review usefullhelpful Review? Yes

johnny mI've tried other cards prior to this Essence ST, for listening to music, watching films. So I expected a lot from this card, I can honestly say I haven’t been disappointed and the in-built headphone amp simply has to be heard.7 User found this Review usefullhelpful Review? Yes

Stunning audioI upgraded from my X-fi Fatality card of 3 years and all I can say is wow! Don't get me wrong the X-fi was a great card but I didn't realise what I was missing out on until I read some reviews and took the plunge.

Music is so much warmer and detailed, the presence it creates is astounding, games work great too. I have yet to try headphones, which is where this hardware is meant to excel.

Great card, would never go back!7 User found this Review usefullhelpful Review? Yes

WOW AmazingAfter my x-fi fatality died and wouldn't output sound any more I went back to on-board Realtek audio which was bland to say the least so I decided to buy another card and saw the built in headphone amp and all i can say is WOW this card really sounds amazing through my Shure se530's. Very impressed!7 User found this Review usefullhelpful Review? Yes
