Great monitor!

I know some people don't like the shiny plastic bezel or stand, but honesty - they aren't big problems! This monitor is AMAZING!

Best Monitor I've had, only problem BLB

I purchased this monitor from overclockers in 20th May 2015.

Out the Box the montors looks awesome, no dead pixels, colour and viewing angles perfect, g-sync works great! its hard to back normal monitor now.

My main problem and deal breaker (with the one I recieved) is back light bleeding around the edges of the screen! its bad!! it causes the colour to be washed out, and I personally find it very distracting!

I phone Overclockers to arrange a refund/replacement and was told that Acer are running a program to replace monitors with this issues or I could get a refund. I went for the Acer replacement program, and as of today 16/7/2015, Acer have still not replaced my monitor and no one can not tell me when new ones are due in.

Its been 8-weeks!! suffice to say I'm not a happy bunny and have started the process of getting a refund from Acer. Hopefully that will go smoothly (if it does not I'll be cracking heads and pulling teeth out!)

I expected better customer care and support from a company like Acer especially when forking out

No problems at all. Amazing Monitor!

The new batch is clearly now in stock at Overclockers. I have no dead pixels and no backlight bleed anywhere on the screen. The colours are very pleasing to the eye and you really can notice a difference with 1440p over 1080p, everything looks so much more crisp and clearer. The 27 inch screen feels just about right size for gaming and gives a better field of view. The glossy bezels are not intrusive at all. My old monitor had glossy bezels and were much more noticeable. A "frosted" style of plastic has been put over the power light so that is no problem either.
The base is of sturdy and solid build quality and functions well.
Plus with the G-Sync and 144Hz functions, everything on my old monitor feels like it was a blur.
I know the price is a bit steep, but considering the specification of this monitor, it is well worth the purchase if you are considering it. Ignore the negative reviews, they are no longer valid. The dodgy first batch disappeared a while ago.

Great Monitor

I was on the fence whether or not to buy this monitor, as I had seen a lot of reviews that were talking about dead pixels and severe back-light bleed. But I have had no problems with it and it is one of the best purchases I have made for my pc. The 1440p 144hz looks absolutely amazing in-game and I would recommend it to anyone

A monitor for gamers - and how!

My last monitor was a Dell 2407FP - OK, but after owning it for 10 years, my gaming rig needed a new monitor to match.

For many months I drooled at the Asus ROG Swift but I knew, in my heart, what I really wanted was an IPS screen. I didn't want another TN panel as I noticed, when sitting to the side on 2-player gaming sessions, that the contrast was always rubbish from that viewing angle and varied as I moved my head.

Then this Acer Predator IPS was released and it appeared to tick all the boxes...and more. So I ordered one.
Ignoring the price, which is somewhat subjective, this has to be the best monitor I have ever used. The out of the box defaults are a little bright but I'm instantly taken back to my old Iiyama CRT as I see the vibrant colours and sharp fonts on the Windows desktop.

But it's better than my old Iiyama - there are no dark lines across from the "Trinitron" wires and the screen just doesn't flicker at all. I'm one of those migraine weirdos that can easily see flicker out of the corner of my eyes and it just doesn't. Loading up a Blu-ray video full screen and then pressing pause, it looks like a photograph. Just a totally static image.

On to gaming and I'm running a single GTX970 and making the jump from 1080p to 1440p with G-Sync. From initial testing, it's simply quite amazing. The extra physical size and resolution makes Counterstrike Global Offensive look amazing. The rich map colours now stand out clearly and going from well lit to shaded areas of maps is now much clearer due to the extra contrast. Amazingly smooth too when running at 144Hz. I already had a 3 figure fps but now my screen can display them all and with G-Sync enabled I'm seeing the NVidia drivers reports around 120fps at 1440p. My ability to both see and respond to the enemy has dramatically improved, it was worth the upgrade for this game alone.
Moving on to driving games like Grid 2 and F1 2013 - again the size and colours make the whole experience more immersive. Driving is considerably smoother too, which is essential when racing bumper to bumper.

Some other points:
- I expected the black "piano" gloss finish to be annoying. I don't notice it at all on the bezel but the stand base is already attracting dust. In real terms, it's easier to wipe dust off a shiny surface though, so not all bad.
- I thought the blue "power on" LED would be annoying but I only notice it when I look. When gaming, it's no distraction.
- I'm finding the on-board USB ports a bit hit and miss right now. I plugged a portable hard drive in and, despite it spinning up with power, I never got the USB ding from the PC and the drive didn't mount. Plugging out the USB3 uplink plug and putting it back in resolved, so I'm not entirely convinced of the reliability of this so far. The somewhat poor documentation mentions connecting the monitor to the high power charging USB3 port on your PC but I'm not sure I have one of those. Perhaps this is the cause. I plugged a USB2 memory stick in and nothing happened on the first attempt. Will update the review if I get any consistent results here.
- Also on the USB socket subject, all of the connectors are on the very left hand side which, in my case, is inconveniently next to the wall. Given my PC is on the right hand side of the desk, this makes the supplied cables a bit short as they are only around 1m long. A longer cable will help but putting 2 x USB3 on each side would have made more sense to me. Putting the uplink port in the middle would have been better too and made cable management tidier.
- The out-of-the-box brightness is set to 100% - WAY TO BRIGHT! (I'm using it at 20% brightless).
- The stand is easy to assemble, has a good weight and is very easy to adjust in each direction. No screwdriver required.
- The display port is also on the left hand side, which isn't ideal for me. Again, a longer cable would have prevented me needing to make this point.
So, aside from small niggles, a highly recommended screen that you won't regret buying.

Dead pixel

Just got this screen and already got 1 dead pixel. Acer is such an Acer :(

1440p @144 MHz G-Sync Power!

I have been waiting for this monitor ever since it was announced and I am happy to say there is no disappointment or regret!

Playing games at 144 MHz with G-Sync is a site to behold, with 2x Asus 970's in SLI mode, I can play 99% of games at highest settings with no v-sync enabled and the results are amazing, G-Sync is worth every penny :)

Monitor was shipped and delivered as expected, no damage. Easy to setup and thankfully no dead pixels or bleeding, IPS screen is marvellous with Colours / Brightness / Display Angles are as expected.

A good test is playing Doom 3 BFG, this allows you to see a game running at 120FPS 1440p @144 MHz with no tearing, distortion or obvious blur, of course with G-Sync making it all possible and of course with the screen being IPS the colours are so rich and don't looked washed out from different angles!

Overall this is a fantastic monitor and does exactly what it says on the box, yes it is expensive and should have had more connections, speakers and probably 3D but TBH you soon forget about those, also the USB 3 hub is welcome.

The only annoying thing I can say is Overclockers cut the price the day I placed the order and would have been nice if they had billed me the lower price, but that is not Acer's fault as they have truely come out with the best gaming monitor period!

Happy gaming :)

I recieved the monitor yesterday, and as always overclockers customer service is fantastic. had a small mistake with my order which was fixed within the hour.

I have always been an IPS panel and never wanted to go to TN to get the higher refresh rate this monitor just makes me really happy. beautiful colours, perfect smoothness with the G-Sync. I have read there can be a hit and miss with dead pixles and backlight bleed but had neither of these problems may have been one of the lucky ones!

For me this monitor is a no brainer.

Great technology but lousy quality contr

I have just taken receipt of one of the first batch and coming from a 24" HP IPS, I was aware that there are factors such as 'IPS glow' and backlight bleed to watch out for. The increase in refresh rate has been a revelation and this technology on an IPs panel is amazing. Colour reproduction and brightness wise, this exceeds my old monitor.
The only problem is that there is significant backlight bleeding in all corners of the screen, leading to a virtual 'orange' haze on a fully black screen. Most of the time for gaming this won't be a problem, but anything with a dark loading screen (GTA5/Max Payne 3 for example) or dark scenes (Elite Dangerous, Dark Solus) are massively washed out. Add to this a number of dead pixels and you have a product that does not fit the asking price. Acer also slather this monitor in stickers, including a large 'pop-up on the top left which is completely useless (I'm not ADVERTISING for you Acer) and I expect the application has added to the backlight bleed through pressure.
If I had seen this monitor in the flesh I wouldn't have bought it, and I feel that the online reviews have had some serios golden sampling beforehand. I don't suggest anyone buys this because the tech can only improve, and further purchases will only encourage Acer's poor QA to continue.

Actually above expectations

Coming from a Korean 1440p IPS that I had overclocked to 120hz, this is still a massive upgrade. Thanks to the low response time everything looks incredibly smooth in both games and on the desktop.
I don't have a lot of experience in high end displays but the one on this monitor is beautiful and definitely better than the one in the X-Star.
This is my first experience with gsync and I have to say I'm blown away. Everything that has been said about it is true. 40 fps with gsync enabled is smoother than 80fps on the X-star.

The only issue, as you may have read elsewhere, is Acer's quality control. My display has a single defective pixel, at this resolution I only notice it when I'm looking for it, but it is there and on monitor of this price it's not something you expect. But since it's not something I notice during real world use I still feel the monitor deserves five stars.
