Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler - 120mm

What characterizes a good mid-class CPU cooler…Is it a premium-quality finish, a high performance, a low-noise fan or is it the dead easy mounting in nearly every Midi Tower case?
With our brand-new Matterhorn Pure we combine all these points and offer the ultimate high-end package at a nearly unreasonable low-price. The special trapezoid shaped fins that are placed in a 180° rythm creating two essential advantages:

- Narrow Fin pitch in the center of the heatsink: This feature increases the thermal surface and ensures a higher heat dissipation
- Wide fin pitch at air inlet area: By having a wide fin pitch at the air inlet area the Alpenföhn „Matterhorn" can be run with very low fan speed as the airflow faces less resistance.
Despite that the "Matterhorn" cooler has closed sides. This helps guiding the air through the narrow fin area and offers better mechanical stability

Stock cooler on my now 5 year old 3570k wasn't cutting it in CPU intensive games. This has dropped idle temps from 40°c to 27°c. In Prime95 after 10 minutes, temps down from 86°c to 51°c. Fan clips are easily put on. Near silent operation. Fits nicely in an Enthoo Pro M Acrylic. One tip - plug the 120mm fan into your mobo CPU_Fan port before you fit the heatsink. Backing plate was relatively straightforward to fit - though much easier with a second pair of hands. Make sure when fitting you keep an eye on the black plastic standoffs as there aren't spares beyond the 4 provided. All in all, does what it says on the tin. Thanks to the forum and the other reviewer. Very happy.

Keeps my overclocked i5 cool just fine

Very happy with this. Instructions could be clearer for a newbie builder (make sure you check whether to use the square foam insert or not and that the 3 holes on the back line up).

Keeps my i5 oc'd to 4.4 GHz at under 60 degrees at full load. Very nice.

best bang for the buck

Took my ageing Q6600 from 2.4 to 3.6ghz stable @ 50c under load even with leftover crappy thermal paste... cant complain
i rate it although you need a wide case as it kinda huge.
thumbs up from me.

This is a large cooler and mine did not come with the manual. However the instructions are on the Internet and other installation was fairly simple. The cooler itself is large although fits in my Antec 1200 case easily. Cooling my 4790k is great with temperatures at load reaching 60s and low noise levels. Overall really impressed and highly recommend.

Great Value!

Great cooler for the price! It's nothing fancy looking but it's good quality and does the job perfectly fine. It keeps my i7 4790k cool with all cores running at 4.4GHz (usually floating around 58c under load). If you have the space then I would recommend the Deepcool Lucifer which is around the same price, but that one didn't fit my case. Still happy with the Matterhorn though :)

Awesome Cooler

Read the review on vortex and thought i would take a punt at this cooler.

Had this cooler for a few months now and just amazed how good it performs.

Keeps my 3570K at 4.5 Ghz at 60 c with prime 95

You wont find better for money
