Great CPU - a lot of power for the price.

A great CPU that provides a lot of power for the price.

At this price range no other CPU comes very close.

It does run hot though when games (fine at other times) and the stock CPU cooler is very loud under load - I'd recommend buy a better CPU cooler.

Paired with a decent video card this can run pretty much any modern game. It makes a lot of sense to spend more on the graphics card than on the CPU for gaming.

I have now built 4 gaming PC with these CPUs and not had any problems.

Amazing cpu for the price

I bought the 860k for my gaming rig and I am so glad that I did! I initially wanted to buy the AMD A10 7850k, but decided to do some research first. I looked at some reviews and came across the 860K review on overclockers3D which showed that the 860K paired with an Radeon R7 graphics card will give you far better gaming experience.

Thus far I haven't been disappointed; I have this paired with a Radeon R9 270 graphics card, 8GB RAM @ 2133Mhz although in hindsight I don't need faster than 1866 Mhz, ASRock FM2A88X Pro3+ (great board), Samsung evo pro 840 SSD, a Phanteks PH-TC12LS 120mm CPU Cooler, a bunch of other fans, sprinkles and a cherry on top. It's in a Silverstone HTPC case hooked up to my widescreen TV for gaming bliss.

So what about performance:

Gaming: I can play
- Battlefield 4 on ultra settings with 2x MSAA anti-aliasing
-Titan fall on Very High settings with 2x MSAA
- Bioshock Infinite on Ultra etc etc

These are all based on the base frequency config of the cpu (i.e not overclocked) and the graphics are actually held back by the Graphics card. If you want insane graphics and higher anti aliasing you will need a graphics card with 3GB RAM, but lets be honest, I'm currently playing these games at full HD (1920x1080) with frame rates rarely dropping below 40fps and never below 30fps, leaps and bounds ahead of the latest gen consoles, what more can you ask for for the price?

As I said, this baby is great at it's base frequency, but where is the fun in buying an AMD processor and not giving it a run for it's money? I am currently running this @ 4.2 Ghz overclocked with a turbo of 4.5Ghz stable @ 1.40v. Using Performance test 8 I get a cpu benchmark between 6370 and 6429 with a single thread score between 1777 and 1809, give or take. I couldn't upload the score because I uploaded my benchmark for overclocking this to 4.6Ghz...

On that note, just for fun I tested how far I could push it air cooled and managed to get it running stable @ 4.6Ghz (no Turbo) @ 1.475v benchmark scores can be found here:

In summary: This is a great CPU for anyone that wants an amazing gaming PC for a modest budget!
