PQ321QE 4K Super-High Resolution Widescreen Monitor - Black

Games look absolutely out of this world when played in 4k, yes you will need some serious graphics card horsepower but for the visuals it is worth every penny.

The ASUS PQ321QE True 4K UHD monitor provides stunning visuals with an ultra-high definition 3840 x 2160 resolution. The anti-glare 31.5-inch LED-backlit UHD display has a 16:9 aspect ratio and 140 pixels per inch (PPI) for highly-detailed visuals.

By doubling the number of horizontal and vertical pixels, the PQ321QE True 4K UHD monitor gives you every bit of detail, far surpassing that of a Full HD monitor. With four times the resolution of Full HD (FHD) and over 8 million pixels, experience larger screen real estate and clarity you have to see to believe.

The ASUS PQ321QE True 4K UHD monitor is a 10-bit RGB panels that delivers more natural transitions between different hues and offers a more flawless image than ever before.

The ASUS PQ321QE True 4K UHD monitor is built with an anti-glare Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) panel rather than traditional amorphous silicon. The IGZO panel supports much smaller transistors than amorphous silicon, which allows for much smaller pixels and much better detail. Couple with an ultra-wide 176-degree viewing angles on both vertical and horizontal planes, get a pristine image from virtually any angle. What’s more, the IGZO panel supports increased pixel transparency and reduced current leakage for increased energy savings.

The ASUS PQ321QE True 4K UHD monitor features DisplayPort to connect to your PCs simultaneously. Built-in 2W stereo speakers simplify free space from needing separate speakers for a complete audio visual experience. The thinnest 4K monitor available, the ASUS PQ321QE True 4K UHD monitor measure only 35mm at its thickest point, showcasing a modern design fit for anywhere in the home or office.

PQ-321Rocks

Out of the box there was a reddish tint on skintones, calibrating the display fixed this. For video playback, even for standard def material, this monitor rules. Display port in MSTR mode didn't work for me, the PC doesn't boot with display port connected. Connecting display port after boot up fixes this. I resorted to using Dual Dual-Link DVI with HDMI adapters with the monitor in dual HDMI mode to get full 3840x2160@60 Hz. The nvidia card in my machine picked up the screens as a single surface (i.e. outputting 1920x2160@60 Hz through each port. It automatically figures out what's the left and what's the right of the screen).

For desktop use, I found 100% scaling difficult to read without straining my eyes. I settled on 150%. It's still not ideal but better than 'retina' 200%. I would've preferred to have used 125% scaling but my eyes couldn't handle.

For gaming though, this isn't that great with the current nvidia drivers. My GPU isn't fast enough to run modern games at UHD resolutions. 1080p is unfortunately not scaled 2x2. You end up with a centred window in the middle of the screen. This is with GPU scaling enabled in the control panel.

640x480 is laughably bad. One of the tech websites reported that the GPU manufacturers were working on a means of scaling in MSTR/dual HDMI mode back in July last year. Unfortunately nvidia still doesn't have it working. The latest drivers (as of Feb 2014) don't allow desktop resolutions (arguable this isn't necessary) with a vertical resolution below 2048.
