The B450 chipset forms the centrepiece of the ASUS PRIME B450M-K motherboard and has been specially developed and optimised for 2000- series (Pinnacle Ridge) Ryzen CPUs. B450 motherboards support all features of 2nd gen Ryzen processors, such as the AMD's new XFR2 overclocking. Additionally, the motherboards support up to 32 or 64 GB of RAM with a guaranteed clock frequency of 2.933 Megahertz. Overclocking to higher frequencies is also an option, although the increase will depend on the motherboard.
The ASUS PRIME B450M-K Micro-ATX motherboards comes with a PCI-Express 3.0 slot with full x16 connectivity for gaming graphics cards. For additional expansion cards, the motherboard provides two PCIe x1 slots. The two RAM slots support up to 32 GB DDR4-RAM with a clock frequency of up to 2.933 MHz and and clock freqeuencies up to 3.200 MHz are possible.
An M.2 slot is supported by the AM4 motherboard. It is connected via four PCI-Express Lanes and is connected using the SATA 6G protocol, accepting drives up to 80 mm long. M.2 SSDs using the advanced NVM-Express protocol (NVMe) and that are connected over four PCI-Express 3.0 lanes are up to eight times as fast as SATA 6G hard drives and support data transfer speeds of up to 32 Gbit/s.
The ASUS PRIME B450M-K offers two USB 3.1 jacks and four USB 3.0 slots. USB 3.1 Gen 2 connections are capable of achieving up to 10 Gbit/s per port. For CPUs with integrated graphics units like AMD's Raven Ridge APUs, the board comes with DVI-D- and D-Sub connections. In terms of special features, the ASUS PRIME B450M-K offers Japanese Audio Capacitors to ensure crystal clear interference-free sound in addition to attractive LED lighting.
