Product information: Radeon R9 390X DC3 OC Strix 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

AMD Radeon R9 390 and above are VR Ready, virtual reality headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are game changers in the way we play games. Valves SteamVR benchmark is the best way to test if your current PC is VR ready, ideally you need a score of 7+ and a 390/390X tend to score 7-8 which means they meet the minimum specification for virtual reality. VR will change how we play games as titles such as Elite Dangerous are out of this world when experienced in VR and with upcoming titles such as Portal 3, Half Life 3, Doom the future looks very exciting for PC gaming and AMD is ready with Liquid VR.

Taken from the ancient Roman and Greek word for owl, Strix means the keenest hearing and sharpest eyesight. Strix means feeling your environment so that you detect and react to the slightest movement. Strix means survival on the very edge of instinct. Strix is in your blood, as it is in ours.

ASUS STRIX R9 390X gaming graphics cards packed with exclusive ASUS technologies, including DirectCU III with Triple Wing-Blade 0dB Fan Design for maximum air flow with 30% cooler and 3X quieter performance. This card features exclusive ASUS AUTO-EXTREME Technology with Super Alloy Power II for premium aerospace-grade quality and reliability. It also has GPU Tweak II with Xsplit Gamecaster, provides intuitive performance tweaking and lets you stream your gameplay instantly.

Exclusive DirectCU III cooling technology features two exclusive 10 mm direct-GPU contact heat-pipes that transports 40% more heat away from the GPU and outperform reference designs, achieving up to 30% cooler gaming performance.

DirectCU III features triple 0dB fans engineered with a patented, new wing-blade design that delivers maximum air flow and improved 105% static pressure over the heat sink, while operating at 3X quieter volumes than reference cards. The 0dB fans also let you enjoy games like League of Legends® and StarCraft® in complete silence — because the fan stops completely when the GPU temperature remains below a set level*. This makes DirectCU III the coolest and quietest graphics card in the market.

All ASUS graphics cards are now produced using AUTO-EXTREME Technology, an industry-first, 100% automated production process that incorporates premium materials to set a new standard of quality. AUTO-EXTREME Technology ensures consistent graphics card quality as well as improved performance and longevity. This new manufacturing process is also environmentally friendly, eliminating harsh chemicals and reducing power consumption by 50%.

ASUS engineers have integrated aerospace-grade alloy components into their graphics card designs to reinforce overall reliability. Super Alloy Power II components greatly enhance efficiency, reduce power loss, provide 2X reduced component buzzing while under full load, and achieve thermal levels that are approximately 50% cooler than previous designs.

Redesigned with an intuitive, all-new UI, GPU Tweak II makes overclocking easier and more visual than ever, while still retaining advanced options for seasoned overclockers. With one click, the new Gaming Booster function maximizes system performance by removing redundant processes and allocating all available resources automatically. XSplit Gamecaster lets you easily stream or record your gameplay right from a convenient, in-game overlay.

Great card.

This is a fantastic GPU. It's BIG! but if you have the space for it it is fantastic. One thing I would say. it is ESSENTIAL to install and run MSI afterburner or some sort of fan speed software with this card. Out of the box I was getting super high temps on this card (touching 90 degrees!) but with afterburner on auto fans, it never goes above mid 60's.
This card is fairly power hungry so make sure your PSU can handle it. This card sits alongside the GTX980 in terms of performance (slightly above at higher resolutions) but has 8GB VRAM and "potentially" better DX12 support. And is cheaper.

The backplate is really nice and looks great in any case. Would defo buy again. Great card, great looker. Great performer. Just remember to tweak those fan settings.

Decent card

I'm happy with the purchase. I can run all games without any problems in 1080p.

The card was £320 and now it's £360. What the hell?

Excellent Plug & Play Card

Being the lazy & less intelligent gentleman that I am, I decided an upgrade from my overclocked (lovingly done by the staff here) Radeon 7990 was due.

With titles such as Fallout 4 being close on the horizon and a well needed second play-through of Shadow of Mordor with HD textures on the cards I had researched the interwebs for the perfect card to suit my needs.

This came in a close second to the GTX 780 but had far more VRAM for my video rendering needs. So, I went for it.

Fallout 4 runs without a hitch. I've also managed to rid my 144hz screen of horrendous artefacting. Shadow of Mordor is as glorious as it should be. Solid frame rates on Ultra for them all on 1080p.

I'm running the card on standard settings with ADM's latest drivers. I doubt I'll ever overclock it or have to.

The only reason I've skipped the 10/10 is the fact that it's definitely louder than advertised.

I've got a second one in my 'Wish list' along with a 1440p 144hz monitor for extra resolution-y goodness.

Thanks again, OC.
