Strix Tactic Pro Backlit Gaming Mechanical Keyboard - Red Switch

ASUS Strix Tactic Pro mechanical gaming keyboard with cherry MX switches, 50 million keystrokes, NKRO over USB, and 21 macro keys

Strix Tactic Pro is a mechanical gaming keyboard available with MX red keys that are good for 50 million keystrokes. The Tactic Pro has the highest-specification N-Key Rollover (NKRO) technology over USB which ensures that every key press is registered, regardless of how many keys are held down at once. When it needs to behave like a traditional keyboard, the 6-Key Rollover (6KRO) switch flicks its mode instantly. It’s got a total of 21 macro keys; between the 13 dedicated keys, plus, F1-F8 can be additionally reassigned, while the on-the-fly macro-recording key allows actions and keystroke sequences to be captured without interrupting gameplay. The keyboard can be modified with its software or left to use the hardware PnP modes.

- Full mechanical key switches with lifespan of up to 50 million keystrokes
- N-Key Rollover (NKRO) over USB ensures every action with precision
- 21 easy-to-reach macro keys actuate ultra-fast combo commands
- On-the-fly macro recording simplifies any long and complex series of commands
- Dual modes: driver-free mode brings your favorite profile on-the-go and software mode provides easy adjustments on the driver's interface

- Red Cherry MX Switches.

Sturdy mechanical gaming keyboard

After reading some of the slightly negative reviews I was initially put off of buying this keyboard however being an Asus fan boy and after being bought in to the strix products with a recent purchase of the strix gtx970 graphics card I wanted to see how Asus faired on peripherals.

The negativity surrounding this keyboard seems a little extreme as the drivers and software were downloadable straight from the Asus website so this didn't pose a problem for me as I would have downloaded the latest versions of everything anyway so a software disc is redundant in my eyes.

Anyway, on to the keyboard itself! The feel of this keyboard took a few days to get used to due to having 10 of the macro keys on the left hand side so where I rested my left hand had to be adjusted slightly, I guess this would be the case for anything which is shaped slightly differently to what you are used to. Functionality is strong for a mechanical keyboard and the volume/play controls in the top right are a fantastic addition and work out of the box for me.

Build quality is good and it feel sturdy, although it has a plastic feel to it, it is a very strong plastic and can see it taking a lot of abuse before it would give up and crack or break.

Value for money is borderline at the

Great keyboard

I first tried one of these at MCM. It's a great mechanical keyboard. Pretty chunky, but very sturdy and well built, and it feels great to game and type on. For those reviews mentioning software, it's pretty easy to find on the website, so not sure where they were looking: There is a firmware update on the site too, which perhaps other reviewers could have tried.

Overall for the money it's a great keyboard, especially as it includes plenty of macros. I agree the software isn't amazing, but it's 'functional'. What really matters is performance and build quality and for the money you'd struggle to find much better.

Had the keyboard for about 2 months now. The build quality and buttons are quite nice. Macro keys are great as long as they work...

My problems started when I installed the software (from the website as there was no disc included). The software is very glitchy and does not work smoothly. In addition it adds insane input lag somehow! When playing CS:GO going wiggling from right to left revealed the problem. The move would be very random due to the fact that after the button was released the input lag would make it still move to that direction. Removing strix software fixed the problem straight away.

Another problem appeared a couple of days ago and made me write this review (I never write reviews but this got me upset). So the keyboard lets you record macros without instaling software on PC (great since the software is a load of S***!), it allows you to store 3 profiles on onboard keyboard memory. However this function stopped working for some reason. I cannot record any new macros via keyboard 'hardware' macro record function. Moreover the Mute Sound button stopped working and now acts as Windows Logo Key (takes me to desktop and opens up start). One last thing I noticed is that the Disable Windows Logo key function doesn't work when you have NKRO (unlimited key rollover) function enabled...

Overall I would urge anyone to avoid this product. Above problems were tested on two separate computers, both of which did not have this keyboard pluged in previously. This makes me sure that the problem is with the keyboard and not my windows settings/drivers.

If I could get my money back I definetely would!

Exellent keyboard.

Simply an excellent mechanical keyboard.

IGNORE the 1 star review.

No software disk

The keyboard is lovely, but when first plugged in, it flashes, which gets rather annoying. I wanted to change this, however, there is no software disk to install the 'Strix software suite' which I also cannot find anywhere online.
