The ASUS TUF X299 MARK 1 in DetailThe ASUS TUF X299 MARK 1 is a well-equipped and robust motherboard with strong components in the ATX-Format. It is designed for gamers wanting a X299 & Skylake-X or Kaby Lake- X-compatible motherboard. The stylish red board with titanium-coloured cooling features provides three PCIe-x16 slots, of which two are equipped with the full 16 lanes to the chipset and one is connected electrically via eight data lines. This allows the use of a 28 or 44 lane CPU with NVIDIA 3- Way-SLI or AMD 3-Way-CrossFireX configurations.
Equipped with a total of eight DDR4-DIMM slots for DDR4 RAM, a CPU with 28 or 44 data lines can operate all slots in Quad-Channel mode with up to a maximum capacity of 128 GB of memory. A CPU with 16 lanes supports Dual-Channel mode over four slots with a maximum capacity of 64 GB. Officially DDR4 modules can be used at up to 2.666 MHz, and clockspeeds of up to 4.000 MHz after overclocking!
The board comes with an extensive array of data storage options including two M.2 slots for ultra-fast NVMe M.2 SSDs as well as eight SATA 6G connectors for 3,5" or 2,5" hard drives and SSDs (incl. RAID support). The M.2 ports are connected to the chipset via four PCIe 3.0 lanes and this enables, in combination with the NVMe protocol, a data transfer rate of almost 4 GB/s. This results in M.2 PCIe SSDs functioning up to eight times faster than SATA 6G SSDs!
External ConnectorsThe I/O bracket of this performance-oriented motherboard comes with various useful ports to make life easier for users. Besides the new USB 3.1 Type-C port, which is particularly slim and can finally be inserted in either orientation, the board also comes with a further backwards compatible USB 3.1 port. Thanks to the ASMedia 3142 USB 3.1 controller speeds of up to 16 Gbit/s can be reached, three times as fast as earlier USB 3.0 ports. Naturally the board provides an additional four USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports for input devices and other gaming peripherals.
For unhindered network connectivity the ASUS TUF X299 MARK 1 also comes with an Intel Gigabit LAN port. For quality sound the the Realtek ALC1220 Codec and a total of five audio ports, supplemented with the addition of an optical S/PDIF digital out.
Additional FeaturesCounting among the unique features offered by the ASUS TUF X299 MARK 1 are the various mechanical stabilisations as well as the Asus Q-Design which improves the aesthetics of the board for case modding projects and the armor- and cooling elements that add to the overall look. The Thermal Armor and the M.2 heatsink steer cool air directly towards hot components while the 40 mm fans help to keep the operating temperatures of the SSDs low. Furthermore the board offers Aura Sync with RGB- LED lighting and helpful overclocking tools as well as the TUF Detective 2 app which enables monitoring and tweaking of system settings via Bluetooth.
