The ASUS Maximus TUF MARK 2 in DetailThe ASUS Maximus TUF MARK 2 is a very well-equipped ATX motherboard with Intel's Z270 chipset offering compatibility with Intel's processors from the 6000 and 7000 series. This black-themed board comes with three PCIe x16 slots, of which one is connected to the chipset via 16 full lanes, while the other two PCIe x16 slots are connected electrically via 4 or 8 data links respectively. For I/O and expansion card support, the board provides three PCIe x1 slots and furthermore comes with support for NVIDIA's SLI and AMD's CrossFireX technology.
The motherboard provides DDR4 RAM compatibility over 4 DIMM slots in ultra-fast dual-channel mode. The memory banks take up to 64 GB RAM and, depending on the processor installed, supports memory clocks of either 2.133 MHz (with Skylake CPUs) or 2.400 MHz (with Kaby Lake CPUs), and overclocking also allows memory modules rated at speeds of up to 3.866 MHz
In order to connect the very fastest data storage devices, the board comes with two M.2 slots for extreme NVMe M.2 SSDs. The M.2 port, with its Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF), enables the usage of M.2 SSDs. The M.2 port is, as a rule, connected to the chipset via four 3.0-standard PCIe lanes and when combined with the NVMe protocol, allows data transfer rates of almost 4 GB/s. This means that M.2 PCIe SSDs are up to eight times quicker than SATA 6G SSDs.
If no graphics card is available, the integrated GPU on the Skylake or Kaby Lake CPU allows for monitors to be connected directly to the rear of the motherboard - and both HDMI and DisplayPort connectors are available for improved connectivity. In terms of connectivity for input devices and other gaming peripherals, the I/O panel offers two USB 3.1-, six USB 3.0- and two USB 2.0 ports.
