Beware of GX (EAX emulation)

An otherwise good card, GX caused my brothers PC to randomly crash, it can be disabled in the audio control panel (look for the lit green button on the bottom right).

Good all rounder

by far a way an improvement over my realtek 887 onboard (asus m5a97) . Nice Clear Crisp Sound , Vibrant Mid's And And an emphasis on highs and vocals. Bass is Dramatic and defined even on low quality sources. Drivers & software Work Perfectly with Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. a Real Steal at 20.99 . bf3 sounds a whole lot better !

Not the best, but good value

I play a lot of BF3 and the sounds you hear is what makes me enjoy the game. I felt that my old onboard sound, which was using VIA, was just not good enough for it.

As a result of this I grabbed this sound card because I am tight and wanted something cheep. I was rather concerned at first because of its low price but I am impressed.

In games sounds such as gun shots just sound better. The shouts of players in the game and just about every sound in the game has slightly improved.

Sadly though I noticed no difference with music, which was disappointing.

Driver software is OK but is noting special. It seems poorly made and can only handle simple tasks but hey, the sound card is only

Good buy.

Arrived properly packaged and in good time (two days, second class Royal Mail).

I wanted to cobble 2.0 speakers and 2.1 speakers into a 4.1 system and it couldn't have been simpler.

Plug in the card, run the disc, bring up the little console and you're up and running.

For around

Great Sound Card

Id say alot better than Onboard great buy so cheap

Phil 2012-05-08

very good sound quality a far better improvement from the onboard audio i had. Still confused as to why i was sent a pack of haribo tangfastics with the delivery though.

Adam 2012-04-12

I'm with many others who reviewed this. This card is amazing for the price and the software that comes with it is is veru useful and allows you to tweak sound to your liking.

Brilliant card!

For once im actually quite amazed that a budget cheapy card can deliver the goods! Im a terrible creative fanboy, completely hooked into any of their cards and would never touch anything else. Then I realised my audigy cards were a bit old for windows 7. I bought my son one of these asus cards and it works great. Well recommended. I might even decide to go for the higher models on these myself. Oh and I just ordered one for my missus after rebuilding her machine. If you want a solid card for next too nothing go for it :)

Jason 2012-01-15

Noticed a definitive improvement in sound quality. What a superb card.

Gareth 2011-12-31

Great buy

Mark 2011-12-22

Excellent value

I moved to this from my trusty Audigy 2 as it was having mic issues under windows 7 and I can't fault the DG at all.

Better sound quality than my previous card, no issues (using brainbit drivers) and the headphone amp is an excellent feature.

You won't find a better card for the money.

Rich 2011-12-16

Superb value for money

Moved from my Audigy 2 ZS which was causing issues with certain games. Very impressed with this. With my headphones in BF2 BC and BF3 I can hear so much more detail, the quality is excellent and for the price I dont think you can get any better. Not an audiophile at all, but I can't fault this at all.

great card better than on board sound

pault 2011-12-03

Straightforward to install , disabled onboard first. Installed latest win 7 64bit drivers and gave it a go.
Selected 8 channel for css , Deux Ex , even world of tanks ... amazing , sound precise and clear and all for

You Won't Be dissapointed

I didn't buy this from OcUk, bought it locally, but I'd really like to review it as it is really outstanding for its price!! Anyways I have used with my Creative Fatality HS-800 Gaming Headset, which isn't a top notch headset but not a bad one either. I'd have to say its much much more clearer, more bass and much louder than the Realtek HD Audio. I have been thinking about this card for about 3 months and I have to say im not disappointed one bit, you may required to do some testing so it will come to your liking, at first it might not be to your liking but do try out all the options before judging. This is one hell of cheap upgrade and the quality is certainly not cheap!!!!!!

Great Sound

I love this card! - After being a confirmed Creative-a-holic for some 20 years or so, I finally decided that it was time to try something else..

Having used a AC75 onboard for some time due to my old Xi-Fi burining out, I was more than pleasantly suprised to find that the Asus Xonar DG 5.1 has the richest smoothest sound for me to date.

Installing into my W764 bit was a breeze though I had to install with the card disconnected from the speakers first time around for some reason the drivers wouldn't go in with them connected.

Having said that, I'm more than happy with the quality of this card, if your thinking of buying, just go ahead, you wont be disappointed, you'll be chuffed!

John 2011-09-04

Twenty quid well spent!

Definitely worth it, only tried it with headphones so far but can immediately notice the difference. Crisper, clearer, punchier.

Zero line noise!

Anyone with onboard sound, you are missing out...

Charlie 2011-09-01

Buy It!!!!

Well What Can I Say But If You got onboard sound like i did get one.I have heard new sounds and woow at 19.99 so so cheap worth every penny guys

Easily the best value for money card on

Let's be honest, hardware is expensive. By the time you've bought a high end graphics card, PSU, case, CPU, motherboard, monitor - even a good mouse & keyboard combo can hit 150 quid these days! - your bank account is going to be seriously depleted.
And so, when every motherboard comes with 7.1 onboard sound anyway, it's easy to look at sound-cards ranging all the way from 60 to 200 pounds and think 'Do I really *need* a dedicated soundcard that much'..?
The answer is, to be honest: no. You don't *need* one the way you *need* a graphics card, and so 80 to 120 quid can seem excessive to the point of madness.
That's where this beauty comes in. It will utterly crucify all but the best on-board sound (X-Fi onboard) and at a tenth of what your graphics card probably cost it's virtually a no-brainer. The sound out of these - especially if you use C-Media Audio Center (google it) instead of Asus' own software - is nothing short of phenomenal for 20 quid.
All you need now are good headphones!

Kieran 2011-08-18

buy 1 now!

if your using onboard sound put your hand in your pocket and buy this. worth every penny.

louisa 2011-07-05

Im shocked

Cant believe how much difference this little card makes (over onboard 7.1HDaudio that is) and at a mere 20gbp its a big steal.
If youre buying anything from, just add this sound card - you wont regret it. Lets just say im really surprised.

Thomas 2011-05-19

Inexpensive, but far from cheap.

This little card has really surprised me. My X-Fi XtremeGamer died recently, so I bought one of these as a stop-gap.
It turned out to be, at the very least, equal to the first gen X-Fi's. Creative's CMSS (virtual surround sound) seems vastly superior to my ears than Asus' virtual 3D, but the DG's overall sound quality is phenomenally higher than the price tag would imply.
It's clearer than the X-Fi XtremeGamer for sure.

Not the best sound card on the market, but almost certainly the best value for money. If you're considering a sound card but aren't really sure you need / can afford one: you can't go wrong with this card.
Just be careful to download the latest drivers if you use Win7!

I'd give it 4 stars for it's overall quality (relative to the X-Fi Titanium or the higher end Xonar boards), but and easy 5 stars for it's spectacular value for money.

Kieran 2011-04-16

Brilliant Value & performance.

Great little card, with a great big sound. Plug in, install CD, and off you go. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Ryan 2011-04-10

Seraph Aka Ben 2011-02-22

Does exactly what it says on the tin

This sound card was perfect for my requirements and perfect for my wallet. And it works with windows 7, unlike my old card.

Steve 2011-02-09

Spot on!

Bought this card to stick in my new PC at the same time I ordered the Roccat Kave 5.1 real surround sound gaming headset and I can say that after a few minor tweaks to the EQ in the ASUS Xonar control panel the sound is amazing! anyone thinking of purchasing the product should do so!

Alan 2011-01-04

hugh 2010-12-22

Just got this card today, it's the OEM version so you save yourself a few quid over the retail boxed version. Just plug it into any available PCI slot and your good to go. I'm really pleased with the sound quality particularly using headphones, gaming is much improved and so is watching HD movies. The Xonar Audio Center software offers lots presets & EQ so you can tweak away to your heart's content. Don't forget to uninstall any existing audio drivers and disable onboard audio in your BIOS if your using it. You will have problems installing the Xonar drivers until you do this. Overall this is a great soundcard for the money and a big improvement over any onboard audio.
