The power supply and fan specialists at Be Quiet! have managed a small stroke of genius. Finally, with the latest Extension Stage 11 of the Straight Power Series, a power supply unit has been presented that is more than just a new revision with minor improvements in detail. Be Quiet! has again launched a product on the market that has been significantly enhanced in terms of efficiency, layout and connectivity - and that once again runs whisper-quiet.
The Straight Power series stands as always for high quality. They represent the broad middle-class of Be Quiet's! range and are available in a range of performance levels as will as with and without cable management. This means there is the right model for almost any challenge. All of them use a common PSU casing that comes with an impressive anthracite look and unusual fan grids that make it very visually appealing.
All performance versions of the Straight Power 11 are equipped with 135 mm fans from the Silent Wings 3 range, and these additionally come with an advanced frame design. De-coupling and lower fan speeds together move plenty of hair while ensuring the Straight Power 11 series functions at even lower noise levels than its predecessors. This model produces a maximum 17,2 dB(A) which for the average ear is virtually inaudible once installed.
When it comes to efficiency the Straight Power 11 series leaves no stone unturned and comes with 80 Plus Gold certification. These means the power supply is up to 93 percent effective (!) - something which not many manufacturers achieve, at least not in the mid-range segment. Stand-by power usage has been decreased once again and amounts to around 0,12 Watts. Not only are the Straight Power PSUs fantastic in performance terms, but also in terms of their impact on the environment.
The great specs on offer with the Straight Power 11, along with many other positives, are thanks in no small part to the use of Japanese 105-degree Celsius electrolytic capacitors and solid capacitors. Additionally, new half-bridges with LLC resonance transducers are used. The fully modular cable management provides improved airflow for the power supply and, as a result, an increased lifespan. These improvements allowed Be Quiet! to increase performance by 50 Watts and even offer this version with a full 550 Watts.
The 550 Watt represents a leading model in the series. Correspondingly it comes with four independent 12 V rails which combine to offer 45,8 Amps and 549,6 Watts. This is supplied to the motherboard by means of a 20+4-pin ATX connector, a 4+4-pin EPS cable. The graphics card(s) can be powered via two 6+2-Pin PCIe connectors and nine SATA as well as three Molex connectors for powering peripherals.

This is my honest opinion of this PSU. I was sent one of these by OCUK/BeQuiet for the purposes of reviewing it. I found it to be a good looking, high quality, solidly built unit with quality heavy black braiding on the cables.It is very efficient and very quiet at the maximum load I was able to apply to it (367w at the wall) using OCCT's PSU torture test. It has a BeQuiet Silentwings 3 135mm fan which although it remained inaudible for the whole of the 90 minute torture test does a fine job of keeping the internals cool. At the end of the day it comes to the question of would I buy one of these PSU's? Unfortunately the answer would have to be no. Don't get me wrong, it is a excellent PSU that is very quiet and efficient, it's just extremely overpriced at it's current price of 105.95 and the warranty is only 5 Years which is considerably behind BeQuiet's rivals. The Seasonic Focus Plus 550w is gold rated and fully modular yet is 26 cheaper (even the platinum version is 9 cheaper) than the BeQuiet and has double the warranty length at 10 years. Antec's Earthwatts Pro 550w which is semi-modular has a 7 year warranty and is 30 cheaper than the BeQuiet. I think BeQuiet needs to have a solid rethink of their pricing and warranty as there is little here to justify the premium price. I give it 8/10 due to the price and warranty length. If it was competitively priced and matched the warranty of it's rivals it would have scored higher.
