Diablo 2 Resurrected?

Blizzard made a very exciting announcement during Blizzconline this year regarding one of the most popular games from the early 2000s. Diablo 2 is back 20 years later and Resurrected is a completely remastered version of the original. Gamers can return to the Hellish world of Sanctuary and enjoy the same exciting gameplay and story with all-new visuals, cinematics and features.

What is Diablo 2 resurrected about?

The storyline and gameplay in Diablo 2 resurrected will be identical to the original game. Blizzard said they were tempted to add more material and make major changes but instead it will have the same seven characters and campaigns, with no new modes or story. What’s incredible is that you can load up your old game saves from 20 years ago and simply keep on playing.

Diablo II: Resurrected includes all the content from both Diablo II and its expansion, Lord of Destruction. The world of Sanctuary has many different areas to explore with horrifying demons, abominations and undead. Players can choose from 7 unique classes with varied skills, strengths and abilities. The main goal is to reach the summit of Mount Arreat and stop Baal, with plenty of looting along the way. You’ll even be able to play online with up to eight friends with the difficulty scaling as more people join. Every player can also have their own mercenary to create a formidable army and take down the forces of evil together.

You’ll be pleased to know Blizzard has made some worthwhile tweaks to the user experience. There’s now an expanded 10×10 inventory stash so you can hoard plenty of charms, weapons and items that can be shared across all characters. The menu has been cleaned up and there’s now advanced character stats, item comparisons and automatic partying when you join a multiplayer game. For competitive players, the ladder seasons will restart more frequently so you can enjoy the race to the top and get more chances to sit amongst the world’s top players.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is going to retail for £34.99 and you can currently preorder it on the Blizzard website.

When is Diablo 2 resurrected available on PC?

Diablo 2 resurrected has only recently been announced which means currently there is no official release date. However, as stated at the end of the above trailer it should be arriving sometime in 2021. If you want to get your hands on the game as early as possible you can currently sign up for alpha testing. There’s no guarantee that you’ll be chosen to take part but it’s very easy to opt-in on the official Blizzard website HERE. The alpha testing hasn’t started just yet but hopefully, the first wave of lucky players will get their hands on this important remaster soon.

“We’re going to start with a single-player technical alpha, and then we’ll have a second technical alpha after that, which is kind of multiplayer and stress testing”

Chris Lena-Lead producer

Alongside PC Diablo 2 resurrected will also release on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and Nintendo switch. With the planned cross-progression feature, you will be able to access your characters and keep their progress wherever you play the game. However, you will need to buy a copy for each platform.

What are the system requirements for Diablo 2 Resurrected on PC?

Diablo 2 Resurrected uses an entirely new 3D graphical engine with the sort of animations, models, textures, lighting and visual effects you’d expect from a modern game. Each of the cutscenes has been completely recreated with modern technology and CGI which will help to make gameplay even more visually appealing and immersive. The game will be able to take full advantage of modern hardware as the audio has been remastered for 7.1 surround and there’s also the option to play at 4K resolution with a high refresh rate. Despite the option to switch back to legacy graphics on the fly, it’s likely most gamers will want to make the most of the remastered visuals.

The stunning new graphics will require some decent hardware and the official specifications are listed below. Blizzard has included the resolution for each specification but neglected to include the expected FPS or any graphical settings data.

Will my PC run Diablo 2 Resurrected?

Unfortunately, Blizzards existing specifications table doesn’t give much information in regards to frame rate performance. We also don’t know the hardware requirements for max settings at beautiful 4K. Thankfully, alpha testers should be able to play Diablo 2 resurrected very soon. This will allow gamers to test which hardware works best for resolutions higher than 1080p. One thing to consider is that Diablo 2 resurrected will also be available on a wide selection of consoles including the more portable Nintendo switch. This bodes well for accessibility as it means you won’t necessarily need a high-end gaming PC to play.

Diablo 2 Resurrected?

The minimum specifications are very reasonable and it will run at 720p on older hardware. For example, the Nvidia GTX 660 launched over 8 years ago. To take advantage of all the graphical upgrades Blizzard has artfully created you’ll want to aim for at least the recommended specifications. The CPU specifications list a selection of 6 core processors with a reasonable clock speed of at least 3.4Ghz. As typical with modern games you should also pair it with 16GB of RAM and a potent graphics card.

The Nvidia GTX 1060 and RX 5500XT are some of the most popular mid-range cards for gamers. With at least 6GB of VRAM, they will be able to handle the new 3D graphics. A similar equivalent card is the Nvidia GTX 1650 super but it does only have 4GB of VRAM. Of course, if you want to play at higher resolutions or with a high refresh rate monitor you will need a more powerful graphics card. The storage size required is only 30GB which is very modest for a new title. The remastered version is built on the same engine and runs on the same code as the original which could be why it is so compact and reasonably easy to run even on an older PC.
