Top 10 Gaming Easter Eggs

As we get ready to gorge ourselves on chocolate eggs, Overclockers UK has decided to compile a list of our top ten favourite gaming easter eggs

From movies and video games, have you spotted these before?

Overwatch Arcade Machines:

On the Hanamura assault map in Overwatch, some arcade games can be found whilst you are waiting to spawn. These games play reference to other classic Blizzard games and even feature characters from the franchises.

  • Vivi’s Adventure: Li Li Stormstout from Warcraft
  • Siege Mode 3: Starcraft
  • The Lost Vikings VI: The Lost Viking

Free Guy: Portal Gun:

Packed with video game references, Free Guy even includes the infamous warping portal gun, from Portal. A fan-favourite platform puzzle game, players must find their way around the map by teleporting their character via the portal gun.

Witcher 2: Assassin’s Creed:

Hinting at what can happen if you repeatedly jump from towers onto hay bales in Assassin’s Creed is this reference in the Witcher 2.  Look closely as you will find the dead body of Altair who appears to have been rather unlucky.

Ready Player One: Famous Video Game Characters:

In the final battle in Ready Player One, several famous video characters make surprising cameos. We can spot Tracer from Overwatch – who else can you spot? (Here’s a hint for you, she was the first female playable character in a fighting game…)

Stardew Valley: Italian Brothers Turned Pirate:

In the 1.5 update to Stardew Valley, players can travel to Ginger Island, where they can build a second farm, find resources and enchant their weaponry.  In classic Concerned Ape fashion, this area is also packed full of hidden easter eggs that players can find.

When you spend 20 golden walnuts on building the resort, you will unlock access to a hidden section of the beach. This is where you will find the pirate cove and two pirates, in particular, look very similar to two Italian plumbers.

Borderlands 2: Minecraft Cave:

In Borderlands 2, as you are venturing through the underground Caustic Caverns, you may come across a familiar explosive Minecraft character.

Wreck it Ralph: Bad Anon:

In Disney’s Wreck it Ralph, Ralph attends a support group for villains that includes some very famous bad guys. We can spot, Bowser (Super Mario Bros), Dr. Eggman (Sonic), Zangief (Street Fighter II) – who else can you name?

Batman Arkham Asylum: Hints at Future Games:

An easter egg so hard to find, developers had to let fans know about their secret… In Batman Arkham Asylum, players can find the Warden’s hidden room, in which we see multiple hints and teasers to the second game, Arkham City.

GTA V: Bigfoot Peyote Mystery:

If you complete the series of golden peyote mystery tasks in GTA 5, players can fulfill their dream of transforming into bigfoot.

Dying Light Meets Harry Potter:

Seen in Dying Light: The Following is this hint to the infamous ‘boy who lived’.  In this small room under the stairs, we can see a wizard’s hat, Harry Potter’s glasses, and a book, all hinting at the Harry Potter series.
