What are the F-keys?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The F-keys, or function keys, are shortcuts<\/strong>. These are typically located at the top of your keyboard, dependent on your keyboard form factor<\/a>. Each will perform a specific task that is defined by the operating system<\/a>, for example, Windows 11<\/strong><\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On laptops,<\/a> the F-key may also have a specific purpose, such as adjusting the screen brightness or volume. You will need to press the \u2018Fn\u2019<\/strong> key to toggle through each of the functions that the F-key does.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These keys will come with pre-set functions, but you can change them manually. To do this in both Windows 10 and 11<\/a>, you can go into your computer\u2019s BIOS > System Configuration Menu > Action Keys Mode > <\/strong>Use the Enter key <\/strong>to either enable or disable<\/strong> the features > Exit <\/strong>to save <\/strong>your changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Use the F-keys:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To use these keys, you will have to press the dedicated <\/strong>\u2018Fn\u2019 key along with the correct F-key. However, you can also opt to enable \u2018Fn\u2019 lock<\/strong>. This will \u2018lock\u2019 the Fn key, making it appear to always be held down. This means you can any F-key without needing to press the Fn key first.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
