What Do I Need to Upgrade to the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series?

Motherboard:

The AMD Ryzen 7000 Series now has an LGA socket instead of PGA. This means they will not work with the previous generation of motherboards. In order to utilise one of these CPUs, you will need a compatible motherboard with an AM5 socket

Cooler:

Similar to your motherboard, you will need a powerful cooler that is compatible with the AM5 socket.  What’s more, these CPUs have a high TPD (Thermal Design Power). Therefore, we recommend you invest in an efficient thermal system to ensure it constantly performs at optimum temperatures.

What Socket Does the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Use?

The AMD Ryzen 7000 Series utilise an AM5 socket.  

Will I Need to Upgrade my Motherboard for AMD Ryzen 7000 Series?

These CPUs no longer work with the previous generation of motherboards since they need an AM5 socket.  

For an AMD Ryzen 7000 series, you need to purchase a motherboard that has a compatible AM5 socket. 

Does the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Support DDR4 RAM?

No – the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series does not support DDR4 RAM. Instead, it is compatible with the brand-new DDR5 standard.  

You will need to upgrade to DDR5 RAM if you wish to upgrade to an AMD Ryzen 7000 Series.  

When Will the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series be Released?

The AMD Ryzen 7000 Series officially launched on the 27th of September 2022. The High Efficiency CPUs joined the line up on January 10th 2023, and the X3D models dropped February 28th 2023. The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D model has finally landed too – available from April 6th 2023.
