Simply the best for the money.

Bought this today and as soon as I opened the box I new I was in for something amazing, packaging was great and very compact. The build quality of the mic is very good, including the stand it seems to be very strong. All of the buttons on the mic are pretty good, they kind of seem to be not the best quality in the world but are good none the less. Finally the sound of the mic, all I can say is excellent, going from my Sennheiser G4me Zero's mic to this is such a huge change its brilliant.

All together I'm gonna give this mic a 5 star rating simply because its the best mic in its price range and I would totally recommend it to anyone who is looking for a studio mic!

Thanks for reading

Lovely, lifelike sound

This is a fantastic microphone. Plug-and-play on Linux and Mac when using USB, (don't know about Windoze) and just works wonderfully. I haven't tested it using the XLR output, but I reckon using the USB out is best for most applications...with XLR, you'd need an amp and other components that add colouration and noise. The microphone's ADC is perfectly fine and doesn't add any noise that I can detect.

Build quality is stunning, it's one of those things that you end up running your hands over and playing with. It's a shame that the knobs are plastic, but mostly the body is heavy-duty and very well made. The knobs don't feel wobbly or unstable, everything fits together nicely.

The included stand is nice and heavy. It includes some rubbery foam on the bottom, but it doesn't isolate sound anywhere near as well as a proper shock mount. Unless you are literally *only* going to plant it on your desk and speak into it, and not type on your keyboard or tap your feet, you'll need to buy a separate stand and shockmount too. If the mic is on your desk and you type, the keys sound thunderous.

Note that due to the wide diameter of this mic (about 7cm), most generic shockmounts won't fit it at all. This is unfortunate, because the shockmount that Blue make for this mic (it's not sold on Overclockers at the time I wrote this) apparently isn't strong enough to hold the microphone up. So, you may need to improvise a shockmount for yourself, as all the shockmounts I found are only for microphones with a dia of up to 50mm, and you'd also have to accomodate the knobs on the mic body somehow.

I bought a cheap gooseneck from Maplin and improvised a shockmount, and hung it off my multimonitor stand (above and slightly in front of my head). It picks up my voice very well even at a distance, with the `gain' knob turned all the way up.

The lack of available shockmounts is irritating, and if it's a showstopper for you then you should buy a less fancy USB mic. If you can manage without the shockmount then this is a five-star mic.
