Product information: Cooler Master V8 High Performance CPU Cooler

The Cooler Master V8 CPU cooler combines the performance and aesthetics Cooler Master are known for, for a complete solution that matches your every need.

The V8 CPU cooler uses 8 heat pipes and triple tower design to bring you the ultiamte in performance. Along with the 8 heatpipes and multiple towers, the V8 utilises Cooler Master Horizontal Vapour Chamber Technology to reduce CPU hotspots and help to spread the load amongst all 8 heat pipes.

The unique tower design combined with the Red LED 140mm PWM fans means that this cooler can deal with heats up to an amazing 250w TDP. The fans also use durable POM bearings so that they remain dust proof and can see a life up to 160,000 hours.

A universal mounting system sees that the cooler is useable with current Intel and AMD sockets.

Features:
•Cooler Master Horizontal Vapor Chamber Technology – minimizes CPU hotspots and spreads heat evenly to all heatpipes.
•Triple Tower Heatsink with 8 High Performance Heatpipes – Optimized for maximum cooling performance.
•Dual High airflow PWM fans with red LEDs.
•Fan speed and resulting performance and noise can be fine tuned and customized.
•POM Bearing – Dustproof and longer lasting.(up to 160,000 hours)
•Universal Mounting System compatible with all available Intel and AMD platforms.

Effective cooling even at a 400 mhz over

Let me begin by saying that this cooler was not my first choice, and I really wanted to get a Noctua.. However Noctua didn't have a cooler to fit the peculiarities of my board which is a XFX 790i Ultra, and these boards have a very high wall of heat sinks built around the CPU socket that prevent a lot of the bigger coolers fitting as their base is just too shallow, or they are too wide around the lower fin area.

Cooling.

Well, I have a modified socket 771, Intel Xeon 5492 CPU that sits in the XFX 790i board which is a socket LGA775 board. (The mod works smooth as glass and is really cheap..!) and the 5492 is moderately OC'd atm to 3600Mhz., and at rest the CPU case (Not the ones in the cores..) sensors are reading according to Speedfan:

Core 0 32C
Core 1 32C
Core 2 29C
Core 3 26C

Ambient room temp is around 18C.

However Core Temp which (I am informed..) reads the other set of sensors closer to the die read:

Core 0 47C
Core 1 47C
Core 2 44C
Core 3 41C

These ones from Core Temp are the ones I tend to take notice of as they are more representative of TJMax scales and are the ones Intel at least rate their CPU's by. The TJMax temperature is the temperature where your CPU may suffer great damage if allowed to get there. (However in fact, manufacturers will have a built in safety margin but I wouldn't recommend crossing that line.. - Unless you are testing to destruction...!)

I have played Crysis 3 and Titanfall, World of Tanks and for several hours each with a EVGA 780 Classified and not a glitch and have never seen the CPU rise above 65C (Core temp..) I have used Coolermaster's own Heat transfer compound, the ambient room temperature at night is around 20C so I reckon that's a result for me.

I test overclocked to 3800 Mhz and then ran the above games and TBH I've hardly started playing with it yet, but the temp reached a lofty 68C which is still a long way off my CPU's TJMax of 85C so there's plenty more room yet.

Why didn't I go for water cooling? Let's just say I was unlucky and one morning I switched on the PC to find that it was a kettle. There was a loud bang a hiss and steam and smoke. PSU fried. God knows how the board and RAM survived but here they are.

Fitting: I have never had such a difficult cooler to fit before in my entire life. They have to review or redesign it. (This cooler fits other sockets AMD, and Intel.. I only have tried the socket 775 with a Xeon 5492 in it..) It's just difficult and painstaking using a tiny spanner to tighten up the nuts off the stand offs is a potential disaster Especially if you slip and rip a fin off your heat spreaders around the CPU socket! You will have a much easier job if you do what I did and remove some of the cowling to fit it, it can be easily re-fitted after the cooler is seated.

Noise:

Powered up and running at around 1600 RPM it sounds very noisy but around that sort of time I have the headphones in and am stalking some unsuspecting enemy target in a loud jungle sounding game with no sense of the fan noise.

At rest, or browsing, playing winamp, watching a movie.. The cooler is whisper quiet, and at around half to three quarter speed is no louder than my stock fan.

Looks:

I wanted blue, oh how I wanted blue to go with all the other blue LED's in the case. Still the red looks great in a kind of malevolent way and even with my case closed you can make out the detail through the perspex side.

Overall I would easily recommend this product for it's sheer heat sinking ability despite it's nightmare fitting design.
Five stars.

Looks and acts the part

I have just built my gaming rig, I am using i5 4690K, with Cooler Master V8 High Performance CPU Cooler. The CPU is Overclocked to 4.5ghz at 1.283v Idle 29 DEG, under load does not go above 54 DEG on a 1 hour test prime95. This CPU cooler performs better than most water coolers I have used, including the corsair ones within the same price range as this. This thing looks great performs great so here's my 5 Stars. PS. not added in product description its Height is 16.65cm you need a wide case.

Good but not the best

This cooler is huge, it looks awesome and it does a decent job of cooling the CPU. The problem is that for the price there are more efficient coolers available. If you don't mind sacrificing a little bit of performance for the looks of this cooler then go for it. But if you are all about the temperatures, then get a Noctua cooler. It doesn't look as snazzy, but it will outperform this one.

I also found this cooler a little noisy even a slower speeds, and you need to make sure your case will support the height because it's BIG!
