Product information: AX1200i Digital ATX '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020008-UK)

Unlike traditional power supply designs, the Corsair AX1200i uses a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for tighter voltage regulation and lower elctrical ripple and noise which improves overall system stability and component reliability. Upgrading to digital provides increased efficiency. The AX1200i is certified 80 Plus: Platinium, which results in lower heat generation and a quieter fan profile. The AX1200i is so efficient that the 140mm fan doesn't even spin at low loads for completely noiseless power dellivery. The build int Corsair Link function allows you to know how well your AX1200i is working at any given moment and lets you quickly tweek its performance. Server-inspired diagnostic tools monitor real-time efficientcy, power usage, configurable over current protection ppoints and fan profiles. The fully modular cables make it easy to install and the self-test switch lets you quickly determine if the AX1200i is functioning normally before you even attach cable to your motherboard.

- Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for delivering extremely clean, efficient power with real-time adjustments.
- Corsair Link™ Integration for monitoring and adjustment of performance, noise, and OCP settings.
- 80 PLUS® Platinum Efficiency for lower power usage and energy costs.
- Fanless operation at low loads, for outstanding noise reduiction.
- 140mm thermally controlled double-ball bearing fan spins up as needed.
- Fully Modular low profile cables for easy installation and less clutter.
- Engineered to meet maximum power output at a server-grade 50C temperature rating.
- Self-test switch to determine PSU functionality even before installation.

A bit underpowered and a real shame about the cables!

5-7 years ago premium PSUs came with good quality cables as standard (remember the Enermax Galaxy?). The individual cables were properly colour coded, used large numbers of small diameter conductors and thin high grade insulation to ensure high flexibility and were properly protected with nylon or textile braid. Then the manufacturers started to use all black cables with thick, cheap insulation leading to very poor flexibility and, as a final insult, eventually joined them all together to form a ribbon cable!
I have been purchasing Corsair PSUs since they first appeared on the market place and have used them in over 100 high-end PC builds. However, their standard cables have become increasingly cheap looking, bulky and inflexible to the point where clients, family and friends always insist on aftermarket replacements for their builds. This would be more bearable if their prices were still keen, but the cost of a 1000W PSU has almost doubled in the past 5 years without any major improvements in the quality of other components (I am an Electronics Engineer by trade and I am not impressed by the marketing hype which now permeates this market).
I used to run AX1200is in both my main water-cooled PCs, but had to replace the first one when I upgraded to a triple Titan set-up as the 12V rail(s) became unstable past 1088W (Output). I had an almost identical problem when I upgraded to two high end AMD GCs in the other PC when I reached 1104W. Thankfully, the previously purchased Corsair premium AXi cable sets also fitted the 1500AXis. Unfortunately, I needed 2 cable sets per PSU as they lacked sufficient peripheral 4 pin molex leads. Ironically, the manufacturer’s ‘push’ to get enthusiasts to buy better quality aftermarket cables and their availability allowed me to solve this issue quickly and cleanly without having to build my own custom cables. However, a few spare interchangeable (for SATA) 4 pin Molex cables should really be provided as standard given the likely use for any PSU greater than 1000W, especially as many high end systems will be fitted with banks of HD carriers which often use peripheral connectors for power (not forgetting Water-pumps, Fan controllers, RGB LED Controllers, CCL Inverters, Flow Rate Displays, Sound Cards, etc). In fact, I only use one SATA PSU connection (Blu-ray drive) in each of my 6 household PCs, despite them all having 6 -15 HDs.
In summary, given the issues I have had with these units when pushed close to their upper limit, I would recommend that serious enthusiasts go straight for the 1500W model and bypass this unit completely. If you are certain that you only need 1200W, I can thoroughly recommend the Seasonic X1250W which served as a stop gap measure in one of the PCs previously mentioned until the AX1500i was available.

Awesome PSU

Had my 1200i for about 18 months now and it's never let me down, currently running two overclocked 980ti's and a heavily overclocked 4770k, it's super quiet and the psu's fan does't even spin under light load, aesthetically very pleasing and looks awesome with a windowed case.

I don't know why this PSU has such a bad rep on overclockers forums and other comments here, all I can say is that people will always slate a product if they experience problems and all products have their bad units, I can't fault the 1200i personally as my experience with it has seen a flawless performance and very quiet psu.
I love it and would certainly recommend this unit without hesitation. A big thumbs up from me.

Junk

This is my second review; After replacing the first one that exploded after about 20-some days of use, the replacement managed to last 15 days before it also failed!
frankly I don't think this product should be for sale on OCUK (or anywhere for that matter). It is extremely poor quality. I have since read about many other people both on the OCUK forums and elsewhere that have had one or more of these fail within weeks/months of use.

I strongly advise you chose another brand. Personally, I opted for a SuperFlower LeadEx Platinum and it has been flawless.

Exploded after 3 weeks

I got mine as part of a new build, powering a 5930k, GTX 970 and a couple of SSD's through an Asus X99 WS motherboard, all running at stock speeds.
3 weeks in, after light/normal every day use, it exploded, which was very disappointing. I was otherwise impressed by the silence and build quality and have decided to give it one more go, opting for a replacement. The self test button was useful in this instance.

Disappointed!

Bought one of these ready for an SLI setup to replace my 8 year old Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 650w, What can I say I have an overclocked i-5 2500k, a GTX980 an SSD and a Wd 4Tb mechanical storage drive running (hardly stressing it!) I've had it roughly 2 months and then one day when I went to switch on my computer it went POP when I pressed the power button. I have to say I expected more from Corsair considering the price.
