(from 8 customer reviews)Good Entry-Level upgrade
I've just fitted this to my Cataclysm Hogger rig which I also purchased from OverClockers back in April this year.
I'm very pleased with the improvement in sound quality compared with the standard onboard, I spend quite a lot of time as a casual gamer playing the likes of World of Warcraft & Skyrim so it really does add to the experience and it hardly breaks the bank either. My 2.1 system is noticeably crisper sounding with smooth deep bass.
I did have an issue with the drivers during installation as the ones provided on the CD-Rom were for Vista, I had to download the latest Windows 7 drivers (80mb) myself from the Creative Website. Once installed everything was fine.
On a separate note, thanks once again to OcUk for an unbelievably fast delivery!
Depends what you want to do with it
Great until you want to record anything using the optical in. Nothing. Nada. Searching support forums seems to suggest it's a common problem, Creative have removed the control options from the drivers in recent releases. Wasted a whole afternoon and evening on it. And this is with nice straightforward XP, nothing modern...
Really good
Got this about a month ago and I have to say it sounds really good compared to my old sound card and it works great with windows 7 64 bit :) If people have issues with drivers check their website or use windows updates as they show up as well.
Drivers
Sound quality was improved.
I used windows 7 64bit.
Easy to get it working, just dont expect to be able to configure it much. Because for me at least. The console keeps crashing....it was working. Something got updated and i've tried EVERYTHING to get it working with its software...
Unhappy windows 7 user
If you're using win7 64bit then be prepared for problems with drivers. They not working very well. I'll stick with xonar.
Does what you need it to
I was using onboard sound on my Abit IP35-E when the sound suddenly wouldn't work after re-installing Windows 7 32bit. No explanation for it really. All the drivers under God's golden sun wouldn't make my sound work, so I ordered this sound card to quite the hassle of days of forum searching. I just wanted something that worked and apparantly a sound card produces better sound than an on board sound card so I thought what the hell. Great investment it turns out, sounds are louder and crisper and works great on Windows 7. While I wouldn't call myself a sound expert I'm fairly sure I can hear the difference. A great price and great sounding.
Also I ordered this item at 11.30am, it was posted at 12.00pm and arrived the next morning, utterly amazing service from OCUK.
Excellent Value
Brilliant card, upgraded from an onboard realtek HD 7.1 and the difference is soo good. I used to have the opinion that onboard sound is fine...how wrong was i. Did i a comparison between me and my mate, same song same headphones (he had an old audigy card) and the bass response was leaps ahead of onboard, when i got my hi-fi system i thought it was finally time to get one. My headphones are reaching frequency's that i didn't think that could touch, turns out all my speakers, headphones and other audio equipment were not bad at reaching low frequencies, but that the on board sound simply couldn't deliver deep lows (down from 50hz) and crisp highs. Even though this DOES use an audigy chip i would say it's well worth the money. Best 35 quid i ever spent.
windows 7 HP 64bit
I don't know much bout sound it all sounds kinda the same to me, but it works excellently on windows 7 home premium 64 bit. was cheap and is slightly better than on board sound. well worth it
