The right drive
If you bought a computer before 2011 and you're looking to upgrade to an SSD, the Crucial® v4 SSD might be just what you're looking for. Designed to deliver substantial performance for mainstream computers, the Crucial v4 SSD was created to complement the abilities of your system. Since computers made before 2011 typically have slower data transfer capabilities than newer systems, they're best-suited for the Crucial v4 SSD, which was built with these transfer speeds in mind.

The right performance
The Crucial v4 SSD delivers everything you've come to expect from our award-winning line of SSDs: faster read/write speeds, faster boot times, faster application loading times, and increased reliability compared to traditional hard drives. We've taken all of our SSD expertise and fine-tuned it to deliver powerful performance for mainstream computers at an affordable price.

The right price
Why pay for performance you can't use? To complement your system, we thought it made sense to deliver a mainstream solution that would save you money while maintaining a high level of SSD performance. Since the Crucial v4 SSD doesn't include pricey features that cater to high-performance systems, we're able to offer a high-quality product at an affordable price.

Crucial—quality you can depend on
A Crucial® is a trusted name when it comes to SSDs, and that's no coincidence. As a brand of Micron, one of the world's leading manufacturers of SSDs, our engineers work tirelessly to design, refine, and support a powerful line of SSDs—'all the way down to the NAND component. From the award-winning Crucial m4 SSD to the new Crucial Adrenaline Solid State Cache Solution, we continue to innovate without sacrificing what has made us great: high-quality products backed by outstanding customer service.

Avoid

Used this drive initially for storage only, and it seemed to perform alright.
The problems arise when you put an operating system on it...
Terrible performance, frequent freezes, or lengthy delays when more than one program accesses the drive.
A new firmware has been released that supposedly improves things, performance is reduced and problems remain after flashing though... Plenty experiencing the same results.

The drive was

Slower than expected

Boot times are short but try multitasking and it tends to freeze. Seems to take forever to install even small programs or normal updates. I put it in a 4 year old acer laptop with no option to enable AHCI. In frustration I replaced it with the original spinner and now use it in a USB3 caddy where it's high read speeds are ideal. Bit expensive way to use it though.

Not that great

At first this drive did what it was supposed to. It was quicker than the old mechanical drive in my laptop, and performed really well.
However, after a while, after booting the computer or waking it up from sleep, the drive would start reading or writing something, making Windows 7 quite simply unusable for 10 or more minutes before it was finished. I dealt with this for quite a while until deciding to switch back to my mechanical drive.
I'm planning on buying the Samsung 840 instead, and I would not recommend this drive as the OS drive. As a scratch disk, it would probably do fine however.

Amazing Value

Don't let the low iops fool you. This drive is still a lot faster than an HDD and very good for the current low price. I have installed this in to a Dell Sandybridge laptop, win7 install was nice and quick as well as startup and program startup times. The only hindrance in my case is the underclocked chipset that dell have used to increase the battery life of the laptop. If your motherboard doesn't support sata-3, you should definitely consider this drive. It isn't necessarily the fastest but the size for the money is difficult to ignore, especially as its the cheapest by far in its (data storage size range (thing)) category.

The reason I haven't given it 5* is because I simply can't guarantee that it is AMAZING. The other reason is that I am using an M4 in my rig and it is quite a step down from an M4 but also considerably cheaper.

Fantastic service from OCUK as always. I bought this as a pre-order and it arrived on the eta date. Can't fault anything.

Excellent upgrade for iMac

A lot of comment online suggests users should just go for the M4 instead of V4.. I have a SATA 2 iMac circa 2009, I didn't see any need to go for a SATA3 drive. I have been very pleased so far.
I put in 8gb RAM and this drive & it's like a whole new machine. Installed Mountain Lion in double quick time, apps and OS boot time so much better. Great upgrade @ great price, highly recommend for pre 2011 iMacs.

Not good as OS Drive

Really poor performance as an OS drive. It slows down both read and write when performing more than one task it is slower than a normal HDD.

I guess as a data drive it should suffice.
