Nice tenkeyless let down by small quirks

Needing a smaller and quieter keyboard than my Unicomp Model M clone, this looked like a nice fit. I got this with the Brown Cherry MX switches as they seem to be a reasonable compromise giving a good tactile switching action with a reasonably heavy action. I'm still not 100% convinced that any Cherry MX switches are anywhere near as pleasant as buckling springs but these don't feel too bad.

+ Nice typing action.
+ Reasonably quiet.
+ Proper double-height Enter key.
+ Heavy with good rubber feet - No sliding around on the desk for this one.
- When the keyboard is just in peripheral vision (e.g. when you're looking at the screen) there is an annoying flash/flicker induced by small eye movements.
- The so-called manual consists of a beermat-sized insert with black writing on a red background. Next to useless in anything but bright daylight conditions.
- The backlighting on some of the function keys marks the key repeat function keys and are at full brightness despite the brightness adjustment of the rest of the keyboard. Not nice with blue LEDs. The "Windows key" lock and
- The illumination in the bottom half of the keycap faces is very poor. I know this is a common issue with these kinds of keyboards, but I'm sure a little bit of extra design consideration gone into the moulding of the transparent underside of the keys could have helped alleviate this.
- The "Alt Gr" only functions as another "Alt" key! This is a dealbreaker as it doesn't allow me to enter the euro symbol or accented characters.

This is the first time I've had a backlit keyboard so perhaps the flashing effect is endemic to them all. It can be a bit annoying though. Overall it is a nice keyboard, but I honestly don't think the backlighting adds anything at all. The Ducky website is extremely slow but doesn't appear to host a legible version of the manual or any indication that an updated firmware might offer a fix for the full-on (and full-off) LEDs behind some of the function keys.

The one thing that really fails it is that there is no "Alt Gr" key, despite it being labelled as such. Because there is no numeric keypad on this, there is therefore no easy way to enter special characters.
