My First Mechanical Keyboard

Finally moved on from a logitech G11 that I've had for as long as I can remember. Friends started to get a few mechanical keyboards from razer and I fell in love with the blue clicky cherry mx switches. And decided for xmas I would treat myself and get a new keyboard.

I was at first looking to get a corsair k70 rgb but with the stock issues, the issues with the hardware/firmware not allowing for the full colour situation I decided I couldn't just wait for stock to arrive. I WANTED A NEW KEYBOARD NOW!

And well I knew the ducky shine 3 had good reviews, I loved the look and low and behold the ducky shine 4 came out not long before xmas and ok not in full RGB and doesn't have a software integration to set colours and keys etc via your computer BUT it does have red and blue LED and obviously all colours inbetween them so my favourite colour being purple I was all for it!

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the keyboard and contrary to what others were saying, you can take the feet off to have the keyboard flat rather than at an angle not that I mind either way. The preset of modes on the fn&f9 keys go through set patters such as wave, reactive, snake, raindrop, ripple, aurora and more. on the f9 key the colour is set by you using the fn&f5 and f6 keys so you can set it to be the colour you want. On the f10 key the effects instead of being a preset colour picked by you they instead go through changing from red to blue and the pinks and purples inbetween. on both of these you can set the brightness and speed you want these effects to be at.

Now if you dont want to have effects thats ok! You have two memory modes on the fn + f11 and f12 keys that you can set all the keys at any colour between the blue and red spectrum at on your keyboard. also these colour memories arent exclusive to each other, you can set colours to cm1 and different colours to cm2 and can activate both modes at the same time, however if you have say a key set to blue on cm1 but purple on cm2, cm1 takes priority. I'm sure to someone that mind come in handy or just enjoy maybe swapping from a fps to a strategy or an arena game on the fly and have matching keys by the press of a key.

You also have a calc, pc, email and home keys at the top right of the keyboard which come in handy sometimes BUT they also act as media keys, fn + calc is play/pause, fn + pc is stop, fn + email is previous track and fn + home is next track which works fine with my spotify so im happy there as well!

There is also usb acceleration, delay/rate you can change via a few key presses on the go if such abilities are useful for you for games or typing etc.

Personally I'm super happy with it, and I'm even a fan of the year of the horse design on the space bar. I find the keyboard a joy to use, it looks beautiful and I guess not having to use software to get the full use out of it is actually quite useful! It comes with replacement red keycaps if you so wish for the wasd keys (though i dont use them) a key puller device, and a tiny little manual on how to use all the inbuilt commands to change the settings of the keyboard.

If you're looking for full colour rgb obviously dont get this, but if you're looking for something a bit different from the razer and corsair, a full black lovely looking keyboard with obvious attention to detail and blue/red and the colours in between i say go for it.

McDhes

Upgraded to this after using a MX Red non-RGB K70 for the last 6 months, after getting bored of the red switches.

Designed around gaming, I found myself not gaming that much. For typing that keyboard majorly sucked balls. The design and build of the keyboard were great, but the wrong switches.

I made the hard desicion of spending
