The Ducky Shine 7 is truly a next gen mechanical gaming keyboard, featuring high quality Cherry MX switches. The latest update to the respected Shine series, this model has several noteworthy features. For instance, rather than manufacturing the top case from plastic or aluminium, Ducky have opted for a zinc alloy. This material not only creates a striking appearance but it's harder than aluminium and helps reduce scratching. RGB LED backlighting as well as macro and multimedia function keys have been included.

The Ducky Shine 7 Gaming Keyboard at a Glance:

  • High quality Cherry MX Silent Red switches
  • Impressive RGB LED backlighting
  • Long life PBT double shot keycaps
  • N-Key Rollover to prevent ghosting
  • Macro & Multimedia Function Keys
  • Removable USB-C cable with gold plated plugs

Featuring Mechanical Cherry MX Silent Red Switches

This version of the Ducky Shine 7 uses Cherry MX Silent Red switches. Cherry MX Silent Red switches have low pressure points, meaning they can be triggered with very little force. This makes them ideal for fast paced action games, such as First-person Shooters, that require lightening fast reactions.

Features & Features of the Ducky Shine 7 Gaming Keyboard

There are several premium features included with the Ducky Shine 7. Like the Ducky ONE and the Ducky Shine 6, the Shine 7 uses a powerful ARM-M3 microcontroller to control LED effects and store macros. It also has a USB N-Key rollover, which means that multiple buttons can be pressed simultaneously without "ghosting". The rollover function can be reduced to six keys if desired.

The Ducky Shine 7 has rubberised feet for a secure fit. These prevent annoying slipping in heated gaming situations and give the keyboard a higher angle. The feet can be adjusted according to three different configurations depending on the user's ergonomic preference.

Design & High Quality Materials

The Shine 7's design has been overhauled from its predecessor. It now has a look more associated with a traditional mechanical keyboard but its rounded corners give the Shine 7 a fresh, modern look. Its most prominent new feature is a new cover made from a zinc alloy. This material is significantly harder than aluminium, which has the effect of reducing susceptibility to scratches or smears.

The frame and lid are made from a two-ply black PCB, which increases life expectancy and improves the signal stability of the keyboard. The keycaps are made of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and are constructed via a double-shot process. This makes them far more durable than standard keys.

Stylish RGB LED backlight

The Ducky Shine 7's most striking feature is its RGB LED lighting. The keyboard also offers a total of nine different lighting modes with lighting effects and intensity being easily adjustable.

It is also possible to create custom LED routines for the keys. All settings and adjustments can be made via keystrokes, no need to use software. However, if you prefer a software interface RGB LED lighting can be configured via Razer's Chroma Broadcast.

Brilliant

by North London star star star star star

After buying my son a mechanical keyboard recently I became inspired to buy my own. I was looking for a 100% full size with silent red switches and the ability to apply individual colours to specific keys. The Ducky Shine 7 does all of the above and the built quality is excellent. The frame is made of metal and the keyboard is very heavy. The finish is a brushed gun metal and looks great. It appears as though the gun metal frame has not been painted so I am not expecting to experience the issues mentioned by the previous reviewer (who is clearly an expert and a much heavier user than I will be). This keyboard is a massive upgrade to what I was using previously and I wish I would have investigated a keyboard upgrade earlier!

Excellent keyboard but a fragile finish

by Rob star_border star_border star star star

I have two of these, one for my gaming PC and another for work, both with the silent red switches. 'Upgrade' from a Filco Majestouch 2 with MX Browns. This keyboard is fantastic to type on and has a softer feel compared to the MX Brown, feels a little more like the usual membrane keyboards. The RGB is great, very bright and uniform -however I don't really make full use of it, work keyboard is set to full white and my gaming PC is set to fully red.I've historically had issues with every keyboard i've had where many of the keycaps have worn down after only a few months to the point where there are no longer any letters on them (I'm a programmer and am typing constantly all day) With my old Filco I even spend at extra 60 odd quid on 'double shot' keycaps which stopped this problem. I believe this keyboard already has these double shot style keycaps with it and up to now - around 18 months of daily use the keycaps are still like new. This also has detachable USB-C connector to the keyboard which is another plus, makes it very easy to unplug to move when cleaning desk, or to empty out the inevitable crumbs! The only downside so far to this is that the black coating on the keyboard 'case' is chipping and wearing off very easily, this began after only a few weeks of owning it. it's silver underneath so rather obvious and this has happened on both of mine in the same place - down the left side edge. I did consider returning for a replacement but at the time there was no stock so I never bothered. It's not getting much worse so I just live with it now.
