My Dad just sent me some photos he's found of my first car so thought it'd be a fun topic idea for the forums.

So, show us the first car you owned (not drove - no no mum and dads car etc) and tell us a bit about it.

I'll start:-

1987 Ford Sierra 2.0i Ghia Auto, converted to manual, 2.1 conversion with high torque cam. Bought when I got my first job at 19 (1997) and modded over the years to pretty much what is show in the pics. I retrimmed the rear seats myself to match the front. I did eventually find a nice set of black leather Cosworth door cards.

As with all Fords, it was mechanically sound but the sills and bulk head ended up with more holes in them than a collander and it rotted from the inside out. So it was eventually scrapped:-

But not before it had donated its parts to this:-

So, 19 years on, I in effect still have and drive my first car!

If anyone is interest in the westfield build, the website for the build log has long since dissapeared but some of it is still viewable on the internet time machine - https://web.archive.org/web/20140731184523/http://web.bethere.co.uk/amigafan2003/

Nothing exciting to see here...

2002 Polo 1.2 55HP (6 valve)
0 - 60 in about 17 seconds, but it gave me my freedom.

First handbrake turn park
First J turn
First 100MPH
First oversteer
First crash

Also used it to practice loads of other daft things... Clutchless shifting, flatfoot shifting, double clutch downshifting, you name it... Poor car... Drove 30,000 abusive miles in it, and it is still alive to this day on approaching 160K!

Fond memories of midnight drives and pointless journeys, not so fond memories of police/speed camera scares, ploughing it into a tree, re-building it on my driveway, and re-wiring the electrics.

:D

Added wind deflectors and 'S' 14" alloys. Few random bits of silver and leather on the interior to make it look less pants (stitching had come undone on the steering wheel here hence the cable tie!) :(

Haha, tell me about it - the Sierra was crashed four times - two my fault (into the back of someone at a roundabout both times) and two weren't - one a taxi pulled out in front of me - paid for the full respray - and another when a delivery driver clipped the front wing and smashed the indicator while dropping off, ironically, two clear indicators for it!

Nice first car that Polo btw :)

Can't show my first car, it was that terrible I never bothered to photograph it.

It was however free, and as with Acme, gave me freedom, so in some ways it was a great car, just not a "great car". 1998 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 in absolute poverty spec, white.

Couldn't wait to get shot of it, so my early memories of fondness to a car were for my 2nd one, a 2003 Citroen Saxo VTR, as terrible as it was, it was quick enough for me at 18.

I had the exact same car as my first car in brown - got hit by a truck after 5 days and it disintegrated. I remember being over taken by a tractor, it was...shall we say tired.

2002 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXi which I bought in November 2008. Mostly trouble-free, although I kept having issues with the EGR valve sticking towards the end. Traded it in for a 2007 Mazda3 Sport after five years.

On the road....

I had a Mk1 Fiesta like this, not a Supersport like this one in the image but it ended up looking more or less the same, it started life as a 1.1 Popular Plus and over the two years I had it it gained a 1.6 Crossflow engine and driveline from a Mk1 XR2, Supersport interior, body kit , XR2 Pepperpot alloys, K&N filter, ludicrously loud exhaust and a stereo / amp that would flatten the battery in under an hour with the engine off.

I never bothered to upgrade the 1.1 fiesta brakes nor suspension :o which explains its untimely demise when I crashed it into the side of an articulated truck (oh the irony!) because I couldn't stop in time before I hit him side on as he pulled out of an industrial estate, I discovered brake fade with that thing and knew it wouldn't stop from much over 85, I was iirc doing ~90 when I tried to slow down, scary!

Looking back, I'm surprised I didn't kill myself or somebody else with it, it went like a rocket but wouldn't corner nor stop.... :o

Nice repair!

Nice!

My wife has a 950cc Mk1 Fiesta as a first car - absolutely gutless but oddly a lot of fun - and I agree about the brakes!

Sure we've had a thread like this previously as this was already on my webspace! 1.4 Champes Elysees edition, was a decent enough car for £450 odd off ebay. Ran it for a year and got £150 scrap for it (it really was ready for scrap!)

Here she is in all her glory. 2002 Focus 1.6 Chic. Purchased in 2011 as my first car. Heated leather seats and heated screens. Quite a decent spec on a 2002 Focus considering some new Fords dont come with heated screens and virtually none come with heated leather apart from the ST. Never needed anything apart from a service and Mot. Loved the car it was immaculate inside. Replaced it with a 1.8 Focus then got a 2.0 and then when my insurance finally dropped a little got a ST220 then my current Focus ST. Its safe to say i like Ford's lol.
