new 800v/350Kw hyundai platform
Hyundai challenges VW with BEV platform
not sure I get the bit about multi-point lorry/van suspensions providing better comfort/handling (for a car) SiliconCarbide power electronics , and, vehicle2grid also planned.

But all that will happen is you’ll see cars sold with battery pack warranties
manufacturers can (do - no?) surreptitiously downgrade the acceleration-endurance to protect the battery if its worn ... a bit like apples throttling. - Makeoveli

This looks impressive

Grid Serve Electric Forecourt can charge 36 cars simultaneously with a variety of rapid chargers, while drivers and passengers utilise the retail and food facilities at their leisure.
What makes this off-the-scale amazing though is that all of the power to charge these EVs comes from sustainable energy, including a 60 acre solar farm, and all surplus energy for the Electric Forecourt goes back into the grid.

36 EV spaces, 24 ICE. 350kWh charging, 60ac solar farm, 6MWh storage battery, grid-tied, smart balancing, leasing, trees, coffee, shopping, 24p per kWh !! Nice :)

Capacity to charge 750miles per minute
This is the first of 100 planned.

Unfortunately, for people wanting to buy used - you're probably buying an ex PCP car where the drivers not given a crap about care for the battery. For all you know it's sat at 100% connected to the charger through most of it's life.
Surely EVs allow for this though? Especially with the advice from the loudest voice in the industry to "ABC"

Glad to hear it finally arrived :)
Carwow timed the 0-60 at 4.1 seconds, impressive considering it weighs 2.1 tons.

Nice :)
Yeah, I'm impressed how smooth it is... if you know what I mean?

Its very nice, can't quite get used to driving with the one pedal driving on the increased setting. Did my first charge tonight just to have a go at an Ionity charger which was free

Seems a lot more people are going 'fully electric' November sales show an increase of 122.4% over 2019, and YTD vs 2019 is up 162.2%, with a total of 86,291 newly registered cars.
If the increase continues at this pace then 2021 will see 139k cars, 2022 would see 225k cars, 2023 upwards of 591k cars, I doubt it will keep this pace but I fully expect there to be that sort of increase up to 2023-25 depending on what comes to market, don't think it will take until 2030 to surpass the 1.389m petrol cars registered in 2019, and using the figures I just gave you'll have roughly 11m+ BEV's on the road, and a great deal of PHEV's as well.

Huge opportunities for new businesses in this changing market over the next decade, much like when it was early days for mass adoption of mobile phones, and even broadband to some extent. Will be interesting to see which of the big oil companies comes out of this the same size or possibly even bigger than they are now, looks like BP are really trying hard, just hope they iron out some of the inconsistencies as they learn more.

Interesting times ahead indeed. :)

If I were in the motor trade, I'd be getting my mechanics clued up about EVs. There's going to be a huge market for specialist garages who are comfortable working on and around high voltage electrical systems.

The extremely low BIK on company cars means that anyone who was offered a company car + BIK tax or the cash alternative generally took the cash alternative. Now it's a no-brainer to go the other way. And anyone who previously would have been offered a diesel is now saying "no thanks, I'll make the electric car work somehow" and pocketing the savings. And it's not just folks who do the shorter runs to and from the station are converting. The vast majority of other BEV drivers I meet at the motorway services are doing big mileages and they just stop and set up mini mobile offices and make all their calls and most of them say it's so much safer than doing it while they were driving.

And it's mainly company cars that dominate new car registrations so yes, the country is going to fill up with electric cars and while I take no joy in it, I suspect we'll be having this discussion in 5 years time when @[TW]Fox tells us he's driving the latest BMW 5-series electric because he spent 6 months trying to source a diesel and he just couldn't find one. And actually the electric one isn't that bad. And it can get him to and from the airport without recharging etc.

I’d definitely have one of my top mechanics trained up and working on EVs/PHEVs now and getting my company known as an EV specialist ASAP.

I doubt the garage I've been going to for the last 20 years will make the change. Owner too near retirement to bother with the switch. However there's Cleevely Electric Vehicles nearby in Cheltenham which is already an EV only garage. Plus there's Zero-EVs not too far away in Bristol that specialise in doing conversions.

I was interested in converting my already V8 converted RX7 at the old garage but the cost and complexity just didn't make it worthwhile. Turned out to be much cheaper to just buy a Tesla instead.
An "off the shelf" conversion from a place like Zero-EV would make much more sense. I should be able to most of the actual conversion work myself still.

Oh and there's also Swindon Powertrain near where I work that are also starting to do conversions for older cars. They offer a classic Mini conversion currently but it ain't cheap!

If BMW ever bother to release one I'll be in the queue. They are far too interested in wacky looking weird EV models instead sadly. I am very interested in the idea of a 545e though.

I am not anti EV - I am anti freedom of choice through legislating against the sale of ICE cars. As I have said before if it wasn't for the fact we bought it new not that long ago I'd have an electric Mini already.

Let EV replace ICE on merit not because the alternatives are illegal.

The merit of what?
Based on lower emissions, both total and local then EVs already have the merit
Personal bias will dictate which things are more important to each person and hence some already see the merit of EV over ICE, some will take longer and some never will.

EVs cannot and may never match everything ICE can offer but that shouldnt be the merit thats required
By the same logic people never would have moved from horses since horses have the advantage you can fuel them on any bit of lawn or waste ground for free
Or if you want the EV comparison, I could jump off a horse and onto a new one to carry on my journey if I had planned and was willing to pay that, you can do that in an ICE car or an EV
Horses also had a handy by product that could be used for growing things, again ICE and Ev dont
Does that mean the the merit of horses is greater than both ICE and EV?
