Microsoft is said to be in talks with Discord about an acquisition worth $ 10 billion (8.3 billion euros), Bloomberg news agency reports Tuesday.

Discord is a popular chat app among gamers. In closed groups, they can chat and call with each other, for example, to communicate better while playing an online game. During the streaming sessions, users can also talk to each other. VentureBeat reported on Monday that Discord would have approached various parties for a possible takeover. The site wrote based on a source within the company that negotiations with one party were already well advanced.

The deal between Discord and Microsoft is not yet certain, because going public would also be possible. However, according to sources within the company, that is not obvious.

It'll probably be fine, everyone said the same about github, said has barely changed so far.

It depends on whether they try to "integrate" the business into their main product stack, like they did with skype. Hopefully they realize discord is best left alone to do it's own thing.

They wont change anything. They mainly got this to link Xcloud game streaming, PC Game Pass and link the discord system into Xbox. The PC side wont be changing much if at all. Maybe free Nitro if you're a GamePass Ultimate sub.

If they're smart then yes. Unfortunately it's not unusual for big tech to buy up and force changes on competitors in the software space.

Depends on whether they see it as occupying a different market niche to teams.
