Hi there

Yes am posting another your opinions please thread as we're still looking for a diesel motor for the wife. We've now narrowed the choice from dodgy people carriers to Ford Mondeo's and settled on one specific type:-

Here's the standard spec:-

Peugeot 206 1.4 HDi LX

5 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Diesel, 32,000 miles, Moonstone, Air-conditioning,Audio steering wheel mounted controls,Driver and passenger air bags,Driver seat height adjustment,Electric/heated door mirrors,Front electric windows,Front fog lights,Front/rear armrest,Front/rear head restraints,Immobiliser,Passenger's airbag,Power-assisted steering,radio/CD,Rake adjustable steering column/wheel,Remote central door locking,Split rear seat, zagros cloth interior.

Am just really wondering if anyone else on here has any experience of this type of car and engine?

Is the 1.4 Diesel underpowered? Reliable?

Any common faults we should look for when purchasing one of these?

Thanks in advance people

Awful car, they've listed the colour wrong too.

Had (girlfriend now drives) a 2002 1.4 petrol for nearly 3 years and its been nothing but trouble. Head gasket at 30k, CV joints, track rods, exhaust etc etc. It;s pretty much all been replaced and the ABS decided to play silly buggers one day and I ended up in the path of a speeding BMW. Sadly it wasn't written off, hence why we still have it.

Build quality is also dire, drivers seat is just plain broken and everything rattles. The gearbox is the worst I've used.

Can do MUCH better for the money.

All other flaws aside, a car like that is going to feel very dated for the money.

If you want a small town car with a diesel engine, try a Fiesta :).
