I just got a new Vista laptop and was wondering what's the best way of transferring files (pictures, music, documents) from my XP computer? My only idea is by burning onto disc then transferring... but that seems very time consuming. Is there a quicker and more efficient method?

As with most (all?) computers made in the last couple of years, the chances are that both of yours have an Ethernet network adapter. Simply buy a Ethernet crossover cable (for like £1) and plug it in. Windows should do the rest! All you would have to do is share the appropriate folders and copy/paste the stuff across!

As the others have said, use a crossover cable. However, if you have a router in your house set up a small home network and make both of the computers part of the same workgroup. once this is done share the folders and then go to "my network places" the folders should be visiable. Then start copying and pasting :D
