2900 Pro Or BFG 8800GTS ?

Which one would be the best card a friend is currently upgrading his PC and wants a new GC but i didn't know which one would be best ?

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro SILENT Heatpipe 1024MB GDDR4
or
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI

can anyone help ?

Get the 2900pro 512mb version :) (and overclock it to at least xt levels :))

(although the 8800 gts 640 is still a darn good card, if your friend isn't in to overclocking, prob better to get the 8800 640)

I think he's happy to give OC a go but hasn't done it before is it relatively easy ? Would a 2900 Pro at XT Speeds out perform the GTS then ?

Get the HD2900pro best bang for buck on the market and as stated it is
really an xt and will usually OC well past xt speeds also. As for how easy
overclocking it is its as simple as sliding a bar up.

If you know what your doing, wants you have confirmed it's stable at XT speeds, you can even just flash it directlyt to an XT! It's basically a quick way of getting rid of excess stock/inventory for AMD/ATI.

If he's not adverse to overclocking then also consider getting the cheapest 8800gts 640mb you can get your hands on, as they are all made in the same factories, even the overclocked models. But value for money is still the 2900pro at xt speeds and above :)

Thanls for your comments guys they really helped Ironically they guy i posted the question for went and bought the 8800 still but i did manage to persuade someone else the 2900 is the way to go :D i just wish i had a spare £176 lying about as my X1800XT is coping but for how long ? well it'll be interesting to see what ATI's next offerings are price wise anyway
