Hey all, well i've decided on this winter i'm going to work on something that needs a lot of work...me!

Back in about 2001 i was fit, in shape and a bit more toned than now.

I've never been overweight, quite the opposite infact, i'm 5"11 and fluctuate between 9-10 stone, usually around 9 stone 2 lbs, which i'm not that happy with, i eat well but have a very fast metabolism, and really do not put weight on by eating, but when i'm at 10 stone i can drop to 9 stone in a matter of 4-5 days again.

My plan for over the winter is to get myself more physically fit, i've been too lazy over the past years, my fitness has dropped to a stupid low and i really want and need to tone up a bit more and get some more weight on me, ideally 10-11 stone.

The only thing stopping me right now is that i have a "partial" hernia, a very very small one that has been identified as not being needed cutting out yet, but i have the option of doing so if i want to, but it will mean 5-6 weeks at least to full recovery from the operation, from a workout/fitness standpoint anyways. This was only really noticable because i am thin (so the specialist says) and i'm in 2 minds over getting the operation done now, or putting up with it (Its not too bad right now, maybe 30 mins a week of a numb ache from it)

The main concern is that my fitness is that bad, i'm really struggling with where to start on getting fit again, my aim is to be back at the gym 2-3 times a week, at least, by January, i currently do 20-30 press ups a day, aiming to increase that 30, 4 times a day, thats how bad my cardio shape is right now, that i'm a bit done in from that, and quite frankly i'm p*****d i let myself get into this kind of physical shape.

For anyone who has let themselves get too unfit and then tried to fight it, what would you consider a good starting step? As i said i aim to be on the gym on a Treadmill, Rowing Machine and Weights by January, but what would be a good step in the fitness stakes until then? I'm not bothered about toning up yet, that'll come with the gym time i'm sure, but i really just need to get my head in gear with this and get started before i turn into a fat lazy thin person!

I'm sorta doing the same, I started kickboxing recently and I'm soon to be going to the gym straight after (when I get paid). In the time between my kickboxing lessons each week I do a lot of skipping, its addictive.

Currently 5ft10ish/11 around 11stone and about 13% bodyfat. I'm aiming to increase my weight but keep my bodyfat between 9%-13%

Good luck with it all, and eat plenty of protein (i'm addicted to tuna - about 8 tins a week).

Wii boxing certainly helps me build up a sweat - think am pretty much in the same boat as you there so I'll be following this thread closely.

From previous experience i've found cycling and swimming to be the best though i think it pretty much upto the individual ;)

I got myself an exercise bike a couple of years ago and I do 5 miles as quickly as I can for a quick cardio every night in front of the telly. I also do a little bit of weights, just 30-35lb dumbells and about 20 repetitions per arm. Plus the job I've been doing for the past year or so has me running around quite a bit.

I found I actually lost weight pretty quickly when I started. I eat plenty now though. BTW I'm 47 next week, I'm 5'10" and I'm around 11-11 1/2 stone atm.

I got myself a rowing machine back along to try and sort my lazy butt out. All was going well until my body decided at 24 years old it would like crappy asthma  so I stopped and its just sat here in my room doing jack ****.
I'm feeling pretty good now I have all the inhalers and stuff, perhaps this threads gonna spur me back into action. I think its just that point of getting started again thats a pain.

Go for it, I might point out here I've had asthma for the last 20 years too, just start slowly and build it up as best you can :)

Wii sports, you may laugh but play boxing once a day and you'll burn some calories off.

Strange as i have a Wii windling its merry way to me from germany as we speak!

Thanks for the advice guys, for some reason running has never gone down well with my body, even when i was fitter i could never job, but cycling (My Dad is a bike racer, well, was, 61 now) So he has a Turbo Trainer i should use and get in some miles, and i'll try and get myself swimming some more, idea is to get myself cardio-safe this year, not taking it too hard, then work hard in the gym on top of things after christmas to get myself toned and fit, then Tennis again on top of that once spring comes around!

All this talk of exercise is making me sleepy, i think i'll head to bed now :D

But i AM going to do this, really owe it to myself, if i can sit around for 5 years and make it so things that shouldn't be an effort, are, its time for a change!
