Simple Nintendo/Nintendogs Question

My wife has a White Nintendo DS Lite and is happily playing Nintendogs. She has amased quite a collection of hounds. Now she wants to get a nice Pink DS Lite and wants to make sure she doesn't lose her saved game settings. Is it safe to assume that the game settings are saved on the Nintendogs Cart rather than on the DS itself??
