Not a great start for me: Whenever I try the peview option it says:
Can't find the storage device.
Please reconnect the device.

Also it seems to sometimes freeze when you select your movie, to see what the prices and download options are. I guess this is to be expected as it just went live, and xbox live is notorious for going belly up when the updates are released.

Points = Pounds:
250 MS Points = £2.13
360 MS Points = £3.06
380 MS Points = £3.23
540 MS Points = £4.59

(prices taken from the excellent http://www.mspconverter.com )

So that's 24 films in total, I have 470 points (so the 2 newest films are out of reach :( ) and fast broadband but don't know what to get, a lot of stinkers there (and I mean a lot!!). 300 maybe (need to add points though). Not risking downloading now as it's bound to go pete tong when it's just launched, maybe tomorrow.

11.1 Gb free on HDD so only 1 for now.

Logged in with USA account and they have 374 movies and the same title's are cheaper ("300" is 320 and 480 points respectively) by about 20-60 points each.

Not a bad start, but I reserve final opinion till I successfully download one tomorrow. ;)

Hmm, I may check out Mars Attacks, but as I've already got two HD-DVD players the VM isn't important anymore like it once was to me. MS took too long to bring it here, despite my predictions of a Nov 2007 release.

I am looking forward to seeing what US TV series hits it though. South Park f t w! Timeeeh! :D

Oooh, Looking forward to this, pity there are not more "new" films in HD.

I take it The Matrix is just "remastered" or upscaled?

Might give 300 a go.. :)

Anyone downloaded anything yet then?

Providing it is OK when I get home I may download one and test the speed etc just to see what kind of transfer rates we get (i.e. does it bottleneck at their end, like a lot of the demos released, or are they upping their bandwidth as these files are larger than any other files available to the UK on Live).

Just need to decide what to get now...

When I previewed 300 this morning I got the same. When I clicked it again it worked. Glad to know it's not just me.

Hmmm, was going to get The Fugitive in 720p at lunch, but got a bit involved in Links Crossbow Training so forgot to do it. I'll start it after work and report back. As rp2000 said I hope it doesn't suffer from the same problems as new demos etc.

I just streamed a few previews, seemed pretty lo-res, not much of a movie fan so won't be downloading a full movie :)

I imagine the previews would be SD (or below versions) as it buffers them. I can't see myself renting stuff long term from it at these prices (you can rent blu-ray for less money and keep it as long as you want).

But I like the idea and always fiddle with new features on Xbox Live and PSN. Plus I been waiting for this for a long time....
Certainly won;t be getting a new HD until the TV shows arrive (The TV shows are not rental and stay on your HDD, whereas the Movies auto-destruct, ala Mission Impossible!!).

It will be a proper HD release; no way would it just be upscaled/remastered from DVD. The film they shoot movies with has a much higher (theoretical) resolution than even 1080p so if they transfer from the film you get a full HD movie.

Plus it is out on HD-DVD so they have the hd files already.
