HD is an industry standard, which has been defined as 480, 720 and 1080. There is no "full HD", or "half HD", or whatever, regardless of what's printed on the side of the TV!

Regardless, Microsoft has mandated that ALL XBOX360 games must be capable of HD resolutions at 720 or above. If you have a 720 TV, then it outputs at the native resolution of 720. If your TV is 1080, then it upscales the 720 signal to 1080 to display on your TV, unless the game has a native 1080 mode (Very rare).

There is a Full HD.

I don't care either way. Technically there is no internationally recognised definition. Europe uses different definitions to USA hence some confusion.

Just to clear things up a bit. In my original question I used the term True HD.
Probably a bad choice of words, by this I meant is the game in HD (720, 1080 or any other type of HD) or does the 360 upscale it?

Sorry if I stirred up a hornets nest!!

In that case, most games (95%ish) are 720p and the 360 will upscale it to either 1080i or 1080p depending on what you have your display settings in the dashboard set to.

So say your TV is 1080p and you set your console to display in 1080p, you will see all games as 1080p as the 360 will scale (upwards) for you. Same if you picked 1080i. Conversely, if you have one of the few 1080p titles, then it will downscale accordingly (say your display was set to 720p).

(The above is just in relation to games)

Does the scaling make a big difference? I mean if the PS3 had the same scaling would the games look any better? (720P on a 1080P display for example)

Depends a lot on your screen and size and how far you sit away from it, and how recently you last went to specsavers :D I would say NO personally as you can't just make information appear through up scaling that was not there in the source fame, certainly you can interpolate, but that is not perfect.

Most games on 360 seem to be 720P the console just upscales on 1080P TV's, some are not even that though Halo 3 included which is 640P (which is not HD).
