problems with ATI catalyst drviers and vista

Im having trouble with my friends computer. I have just installed vista but when I install the graphics card the image displyed is all scrambled, but on xp the card works fine. Im struggling to find just the display driver on its own because every 1 I have tried installs the catalyst centre which I dont want on. It wont let me de-select it on the custom installation menu.

Are there any drivers where the catalyst centre wont have to be installed?

The card in question is a radeon x1650.

im looking on their site but there doesnt seem to be any drivers for windows vista 32.

Are there any more that you know of?
