Spec my dad a car - £6K budget diesel

Dads Pug 307 Diesel has been playing up loads recently and hence hes looking for something new.

The criteria are:-
Lowish mileage (under 40,000)
Diesel
Small sized (roads are pretty narrow and needs a 'nimble' car)
Budget is around £6000

He does around 100 miles a day commuting to work, its all on country roads as well from Llandudno to Bala! which takes him through bits of Snowdonia!

I've got an old Mini so know naff all about newer cars, I heard Yaris and Skoda Fabia are meant to be decent. I think hes leaning towards an older style Corsa?

Any help is appreciated as he's getting desperate for something, the infamous French electrics are doing his head in on the Pug.

How small does he want to go? Can get plenty of low mileage diesel Focusses or Mondeos for about that price. Possibly a Fiesta TDCi?

I'd advise against the Fabia vRS. Cheap to run, but 100 miles a day in one isn't nice. (I do 90 miles a day in mine).

Octavia TDi or Mondeo TDCI would both make comfortable reliable cars for spending 100 miles a day in.

Oh, and only 6k? Hasn't he read the published figures for how much he should be spending on a car?

If you look at the Bora you should also consider the toledo.

A Bora or a Golf are worth looking at. As well as possibly a focus.
