Creative Webcam Live Ultra2
1.3mb photo/640x480/30fps video
Cost about £58.

I got this from Overclockers 18months ago & after leaving it on all night it developed a magenta cast & slight patterned distortion, as I had it recording as a security camera in case anyone pinches my other car wheel arch.
I've tried different capture software/lighting conditions etc. even took it apart & removed the lens to rule that out.
There is some normal colour at the top of the image though.

Does anyone have any ideas whats happened or how to fix it? thanks...

Good idea but naa, i've tried moving it around, different rooms, on 5m usb ext. still same.

I'm just wondering if all webcams go like this if you leave them on overnight?

tbh, its probably broked, and also unless theres some serious flood lighting on your car which would probably deter the theifs, that webcam will record about as much detail as photocopying a photocopy (x1000) of the theifs face, its rubbish to start with, and the low light will only worsen it, now with this magenta its not gona have a whole lot going for it if you took it to the police or just tried to see for your self. They will be hooded no doubt.

Yer I understand where you're coming from.
I just feel I need to do something because of the last theft.
I'm looking for a HD webcam, but cant find one that does video at proper hd.
Also some IR light, motion sensor floodlight or something.
Or maybe the little green light from my current cam will frighten them off lol.
