How much extra was the 9-cell? Or did you use the free upgrade thing?

And yeah that all sounds petty good.

I'm a very impatient person, I ordered my Vostro 1500 on the 26th, and current estimated delivery is the 8th April! The online check still says "Pre-production"
And I rang up about the free upgrade to the battery, and was told no, unless I wanted to cancel the order and start again. So I'm not going to bother with the 9cell

I've just played the Bioshock demo and that ran quite well. Left everything on High at 1280x800. Some areas it slowed a bit but I'm sure tweaking around with the graphical settings would improve performance.

Will install CS:S at the weekend and I'm confident it'll run that at 1280x800 with everything on high. I'm not bothered about AA to be honest.

You got to remember that the 8600MGT is a cut down version of the desktop 8600GT.

8600GT: Approx 540MHz Core, 256MB 1400MHz GDDR3 Memory

8600MGT: 475MHz Core, 256MB 400MHz DDRII Memory
Sorry to go digging up an old post, but I noticed this when reading through the thread before ordering my 1500 last week.

Although it's 400 MHz ram that's DDR so the 8600M GT is actually running 475 core / 800 ram, so it's not that bad really, probably about 35% down on the desktop card maybe. It's the same as when my 8800 GT is listed at 1800 on the ram, but if you inspect the ram clocks with GPU-Z or rivatuner they'll show the ram at 900.

I've just ordered a Vostro 1700, 1.8 C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB HDD, 2MP Camera and 8600GT. All for £457 delivered!
Quite happy with the cost, so lets hope the turn around and actual product live up to this thread :D.

Maybe I shouldnt have gone for the 4 gig ram option, seeing as dell have stopped their vista 64 support for vostros.

i really would worry about that, your still going to get intel and nvidia drivers which will be more upto date than the dell ones anyway and even if you use the 32bit os your still going to see a diff using 4gb over 2gb just maybe not the full potential

Just a query I have, I bought a dell vostro approx 6 months ago, which came with a 1 yr warranty. After that warranty is up, is it possible to purchase an extended warranty from dell? Thanks.

What is the best OS for the Vostro . just priced a 15 and a 17 laptops , should I go for Vista Home or Ultimate, only using them mainly for surfing and playing DVDS and occasional gaming when we are out
Should I save on the OS and upgrade the Ram from 2 gig to 4 gig per machine instead , processors in both machines is the T8100

Thanks

I'd personally go for the 4gigs of ram...

Has anyone got one of the 1680x1050 screens? I'm very interested to know people opinions of them as I'll be ordering mine soon and I'm not sure whether to go for 1440x900 or the 1680x1050
