I am looking to replace my neck strap with something a longer so that i can sling it over my head so it sits on my waist like a satchel bag.
the most wieght i will have is the body and a 70-200 f/2.8 L IS (which i am currently saving for) so reasonable padding would be nice.

if there is nothing out there i am sure i can DIY one.

Go checkout the Optech range. Their "Pro" is a wonderfully comfortable kneck strap, but they also have some other things like belts and similar that might interest you.

Another vote for Optech Pro from me, got mines for my 40D last month or so and i hardly feel the weight of the camera plus lens compared to the 20D and the standard Canon one.

I think it might be a optech - I dont mind the neoprene material and i know its nice and soft from SCUBA diving especially when you have the weight of tank and jacket just on 2 straps.
