BUDGET: £800 - £1k

Processor: YES
Motherboard: YES
Memory: YES
Graphics Card(s): YES (4870 X2 if possible)
TV Card: NO
Hard Drive(s): NO
Optical Drive(s): NO
Cooling: NO
Water Cooling: NO
Cable(s): YES
Sound Card: NO
Controller Card(s): NO

Uses: General Use, Gaming, Photoshop
Overclocking: Possibly, not a must though

Currently have a dell 24" LCD so need a beefy video card to run games at native res. If a 4870 (non x2) would suffice for this then i'll go with that to save money. The case will be out of view under a desk so not bothered with how pretty it looks but the quieter the better.

Basically it's a gaming spec rig for my brother, as future proof as possible...I know it's a limited budget but he has just seperated from his Fiancée & she's now stripped him of everything including the old PC so needs something new to while away his nights at the parents while he gets himself back on his feet.

Thanks in advance

That looks good thanks, so we'd judt need a monitor on top of that. Looking at that the spec is almost better than mine that I got a couple of years ago and she wouldnt need it that powerful so wondering if she needs to spend that much money? Can anything be done for £100 less? I may have to do some cheeky swapping of parts with mine ;)

Thanks for that, seems to be along the lines of what I was looking at. Although will probably spend the extra fiver to get the Asus 4850 since it has a 3 year warranty, rather than 1 year - for piece of mind.

I'll be able to get all that for around £400 with my 10% off voucher and free delivery :p

Does anyone else have any possible alternatives to suggest?

BUDGET: £700~

This is my first ever build – moving from a Laptop so I don't have any of the pieces and I have no experience with building so go easy on the first timer!

Processor: Yes
Motherboard: Yes - (inbuilt sound card as long as its not awful)
Memory: Yes
Graphics Card(s): Yes
TV Card: No
Hard Drive(s): 1
Optical Drive(s): 1 (normal DVDRW)
Cooling: If needed not to sure
Water Cooling: No
Cable(s): If needed not to sure
Sound Card: Yes – (Only if there is no inbuilt one on the motherboard)
Controller Card(s): If needed not to sure
Case: Yes
Power Supply: Yes

Keyboard: Yes
Mouse: No
Headset: No
Speakers: No
Monitor(s): 1
Operating System: Vista 64-bit

Uses: Gaming (Main reason – would like to run games of crysis level well but doesn't have to be maxed), Listening to music, movies, word processing.
Overclocking: None – never done it before don't know how as I'm still learning how to do all this building business, possibility of doing it in the future..maybe?

Also any tips for first time builder would be greatly appreciated!
