Some of my friends say i'm getting too old to play games and i'm only 23!!

It all comes down to the fact i don't like halo and that i still think the classic 2D era of the snes and megadrive was and is still the best gaming era due to lack of complexity and they didn't try to shove uber graphics in your face like most games try to today.

Actually there was an article in one of the newspapers which involved 12 year olds playing on some old games e.g. original GB tetris, space invaders and super mario brothers and they slagged them off because they were too hard because the graphics were horrible!! i litterally lol'd when i read that

A lot of gamers I know are much older than me(34). That includes Wow, Warhammer 40k, D&D, Magic:The Gathering etc. I can't see myself losing interest any time soon either.

You are far too old. You should be building Ham Radios in your shed. Or planning on world domination from there. I do hope you have a favorite chair. 38 here and still playing games although I feel I have seen it all before and find them a little boring at times.

Made me smile.

You're never too old to have fun. I've been gaming for over 20 years and will hopefully be gaming for the same again and more. My dad still plays flight sims and he's well over 60.

47 and still going strong. Whether it's GTA, COD or a more serious flight/train sim - I love it.

I can't honestly see me ever giving up PC gaming in some form unless the genre itself was to disappear. I guess the only other factor that might otherwise prevent me enjoying PC gaming to a ripe old age is loss of faculties - eyesight, reflexes, mobility etc. but not an issue yet!

Hi all, I've allways been into PC games, I'm actually 39 tommorrow(wed) & still enjoy a game of BF2, rise of nations,X3, flight simulator 2004 amongst a few others, I allways cringe a bit when people ask me what I'm into because it's mostly PC games ( my only other interests are going to the gym but gaming is my main ) & I dont like telling people TBH.
Is there anyone on here who is my sort of age or am I the oldest one on here and need to grow up.

funny how hitting a white band of rubber with a stick around miles of fields is acceptable but socialising via gaming online isn't

I too am in that boat but usually the smirks are from people who are ignorant of the facts.

Games = interactive entertainment, a valid and unique entertainment form just like films or books. The sooner game snobbery is gone the better. :)

36 and still play games on both the PC and PS2. In fact I've just recently started WoW so my FPS playing time will take a severe hit now. :D

I'm the same age and have started wow which server you on Azagoth lol :D

Past conversions with the wife about gaming is

me "I'm away to have a game and chat"

her "Talking to 13 year olds again huh?"

me "No actually other adults are online as well gaming"

her "Sounds silly to me"

me "Ok I'm off out to the pub instead then!" ;)

My dad plays CS:S and wow and hes 42 in a few days. I got him into PC gaming when I was about 14 (23 now) when I started playing CS . We have had most consoles to date since the commodore days.

I'm 40 next July and have just recieved my pre-ordered copy of Spore (PEGI 12+) in the post. I delight in telling my co-workers about my evenings as a goblin killing the Wargs of Zog in the Caves of Drak ;)

As already been pointed out in the thread, you never to old to play games! I'm 38 here and enjoy gaming just as much as anyone else.. mostly play SimCity 4, CIv III and IV, The Settlers and similar games, but sometimes Desperados, Dead Man's Hand and such also.. You are only as old as you fell.. or should we say young? :p

Cheers

43 here and still happily playing. Along with ongoing Lord of the Rings Online (lifetime account), I have recently finished both Mass Effect and The Witcher.

I certainly don't have the wish to play "twitcher" shooting games so much these days and I'm sure my reaction times are slower than 20 years ago, but so what? :p

There is a good side to being an old gamer. I turned 40 this year and I look at my huge pile of old games and realise I've completely forgotten what the levels/storylines etc are for half of them, such that I can play them again for a nostalgia trip. Its like playing them as new for a second time, as long as they can be made to run on a modern pc. I recently replayed Dungeon Keeper and only remembered parts of a few levels. I'm planning on replaying the CnC series again next.

As far as new games go however I find I only really like them if they have a strong atmosphere and a degree of realism. I think this is the most important factor for me in modern games. Stalker was a prime example of this. I don't know if this is age related or just apathy against run of the mill flashy bangy spangly games.

Quit worrying about what other people think and get on with doing what you enjoy.

Probably the best bit of advice yet.

I'm actually quite supprised how many replies this thread has had, all positive as well, glad to see I'm not the oldest gamer here, somthing else I should have asked, any female gamers here or is PC gaming predominately male ?

I'm just over seven in dog years so by gaming standards I'm ancient. I went through a bit of a stage when I was in my thirties when I felt a bit guilty about it, but then I realised I'll probably be playing games until I drop. Even the missus has stopped calling me a big kid :). Boys never stop playing with their toys, nothing wrong with that.
