Hi,

This is what i currently have:

e8600, Corsair HX 620W, Antec 300

Budget is around £550 for the remaining parts. Will be running Vista Ultimate 64bit OS. Will be purchasing a 24" monitor soon so will be gaming at 1920 x 1200. Main use of PC will be gaming and general internet use.

This is my go:

Samsung SH-S223F/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM (£17.61)
Asus P5Q-E Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£117.49)
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (£88.11)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (£43.46)
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB (£193.86)

Sub Total : £391.95
Shipping : £8.95

VAT : £70.16
Total : £471.06

Can you suggest alternatives, changes etc along with a good cpu cooler to fit in my Antec 300 as i wish to overclock.

Thanks a lot :)

Looks good to me.

Maybe swap the p5q-e to the p5q-pro and consider the 4870x2 if gaming at 1920x1200 as you might just be able to squeeze that into £55o budget?

Also, Tuniq tower is a good cooler.

edit: maybe not do-able in your budget after all... ;)

Thanks for the reply. Just found a thread with a pic of the Tuniq Tower in an Antec 300 and it just about fits :p

Might get the p5q pro and save £17

The 4870x2 will be kickass, the budget is just over but is worth it overall. The Arctic cooler freezer 7 is a good quality cooler and will let you overclock fine. If you plan to do some heavy overclocking, a better cpu cooler would be a good idea, but not essential.

The 4870x2 is tempting but im a little worried with my 620W PSU. Should i be? I was thinking that faster RAM with my e8600 would be better when it comes to overclocking.

Thanks for your comments :)

I wouldn't be worried about your PSU, I'm running the system in my sig and currently drawing 240W, the most I've seen it get too is just over 400W (while running 3D Mark Vantage)

Thats a suprise. I automatically assumed that a new system with a new graphics card will need like a 1000w psu  I should research more :p

Thanks for the info Rich.

I went with the following after:

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail 1 £155.09
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard 1 £79.89
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB24GB8500C5DC) 1 £65.79
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST3500320AS) 2 £69.54
Samsung SH-S223F/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM 1 £14.09
Acousti Ultra-Soft Arrowhead Fan Mounts - 8 Pack 1 £2.81

Sub Total: £387.21
City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri) Shipping: £8.95
Total Vat: £69.33
Total inc Vat: £465.49

Also ordered an OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU Cooler.

Can't wait to build this machine. Its been around 8 months since i played a PC game. Got lots of catching up to do :D

Thanks for the comments.

I would not mix ASUS+OCZ, you want to know why you can use SEARCH because its mentioned about 1x per week and read on XS and also OCZ forums although they make excuses.

It may run fine but it is known to not get on.

I made the correct decision then :)

I was willing to pay a bit extra for Geil because ive used them before when i overclocked my e6300 a few years ago. After looking around the forums it seems like a good choice for overclocking.

I can't find anything on these forums, or even via a google?

Nothing particulary wrong with the RAM (in terms of the speed) but with a E8600 and the speeds they get up to then having a faster speed would be preferential in my opinion.

ASUS boards are reported to have lots of issues with different RAM manufaturers, my motherboard is well known to hate crucial ballistix but has no issue running 4x1gig sticks upto and including 1141Mhz at 5-5-5-15, have gone higher but at looser timings.

So what memory would recommend then for an Asus P5Q Pro? (Need 4gb and wouldn't mind spending a little xtra for future proofing)
