Is gmail anymore unsafe than an ISP email account?

Hi,

Is it anymore unsafe to use gmail for banking, ebay ect, than with an ISP email? Or is it safer as I login using SSL?

I'd have thought it'd be safer in terms of someone performing a man in the middle attack. Otherwise, their infrastructure would surely be as safe as others.

I really dont think from a banking point of view that your email provider would be an issue. Banks never send confidential details or passwords to your email address directly anyways. And gmail is more likely to filter out phising spam from people trying to trick you into inputting your banking details onto a fake site.
