That is a good point. ESXi and some beefy servers probably will render this thread redundant.

I'd disagree, our servers of 4 or 5 years old are starting to fail with regularity, usually the same fault too, no display and the motherboard needs replacing. Even if it's covered by same day support (4 hour fix in our case) it's still a problem if it's a critical system so just having it covered by warranty isn't enough given the increased risk of failure.

Generally the same here as well - we have 4 hour Fault to Fix with HP but usually replace after 3yrs.

If these servers are business critical then a single server failing taking the service offline is probably a bigger issue than how long the hardware refresh cycle is.

If 1 server failing takes out your AD then somebody needs to have a very serious look at the design of the infrastructure...
