Which WD drive?

Running out of space and could do with sorting out my system anyway. I've narrowed it down to two choices.

1) A WD Caviar Black 750Gb which OcUK have for just £64. Compares very favourably to the 1Tb version which is over 90 quid. Use 100Gb for C:\ for Windows, and the rest for junk.

2) A WD Caviar Green 1Tb for a little more than the 750Gb Black. Use the entire driver for junk and retain my WD AAKS as my primary drive.

Which would be the better option for a gaming system do you think? Would I notice the additional performance of the Black drive? I've ruled out the Samsung Spinpoint 1TB 32Mb cache drive because I've heard its noisy and unreliable. Am I wrong to think this?

Cheers!

black drive is far faster than green drive, get the 750gb black! samsung f1 isnt noisy or unreliable, black is a little quicker tho but less space for similar price.

that's the order of fastest to slowest -the 640 and 1000 will be the same speed i'd imagine.

an AAKS = WD Blue by the way..

black>blue>green (fastest to slowest)

i have a green in my media pc, it's pretty darn quiet, saying that my blue in my gaming pc is quiet too

Ive got 4 Samsung F1 1TB HDD's. No problems to report as yet. I think you hear a lot of failures about the Samsungs purely because they are a very popular choice and are so many out there!

How does the RE3 compare to the Black in terms of speed and quietness? I notice the 500Gb RE3 is more expensive than the 640Gb Black.

Went for the 750Gb WD Black in the end. Seemed like the best price:performance of the Black series range :)

omg! Think of all that energy you're PC will be using, I mean with that and that inefficient Q6600 you'll be spending at least another £2 a year!!! :p;)
