I'll jump on the bandwagon here. My washing machine has just stopped working. It's one of those digital ones and when I set it and press start, it just beeps and flashes that the door is open (but it's not)
I'm guessing it's a sensor somewhere but haven't got a clue where to start.

Could just be the door lock, does it start normally after a slam or a bang ?

dunno about yours but mine seems to cycle through the programmes when I first turn it on, At first I just turned it off for a while and it would work (cold boot?) Now I find that soaking the excess water out of the overflow compartment in the powder tray seems to get it going first time, Weird huh?

Emptying the conditioner compartment in the dispenser should not make any difference to anything but it does mean that the built in siphon is blocked and needs a clean out.

Others have answered this much better than me, especially Eddie.
When you buy the new bushes you'll be amazed at just how worn down yours are.

Take the top off the washing machine and look down inside at the back of the catch.
Usually there will be a sensor there.

What confuses me is that its only a few years old, and gets very light use, maybe 2-3 cycles per week :/

I guess at £8.50 for copies it doesnt matter, but to most people this would have been an expensive callout.

Mums crapped her self awhile back aswell.

If you can find a 20-30 year old simpson washing machine then grab it. It will go for ever! Thats what shes got now.

And my tumble dryer is a 30-40 year old simpson which is going like it did when it left the store:cool:

They are made of pretty thick metal all over with very few bits of plastic trim:D

They are still big lumps of metal that dont die:D

I went to school with the Grandson of the people who owned Simpson:)(unless you simpson is different to ours.)
He was always going on holiday some where over seas, I swear he had been to every continent before he was even 8:p

This the one you were thinking of?

Simpson was a manufacturer of household appliances based in Adelaide, Australia.

Simpson was established in 1909. In 1963 they merged with Pope Industries Ltd to form Simpson Pope Holdings Limited. Pope was originally established as Popes Sprinker and Irrigation Company in 1925 and after World War II was also a manufacturer of washing machines. The company changed its name to Simpson Holdings Limited in 1979. Simpson Holdings was a listed public company. In 1986, Simpson merged with Email Limited, an industrial conglomerate specialising in refrigeration, electric meters and metals distibution. In 1999 the Email conglomerate was taken over and broken up with the appliance business being obtained by Electrolux.

As of 2006 the Simpson manufacturing plant had been closed down but Electrolux was still using the Simpson brand name on some budget-priced products in their range.

The Pope brand is still used for some lines of garden watering and sprinker products.

The brushes need replacing when they are worn. I have a similar model and the exact same thing happened to me. I paid someone £50 to do it for me as I didnt have the time or paitience :( Works a treat now.

I have never, ever heard of "simpson". Over here the best make which fits with the "it will go forever" (although i'd imagine it'd still need brushes?) are Miele.

Might as well jump on the bandwagon...

My washing machine isn't spinning either. No matter what setting I put it to it just sits there for a few mins then clicks off. Nothing seems to happen apart from what sounds like the draining pump.

Is this likely to be the brushes as well? Or could it be the motor or drum?

Cheers!

LG machine washes fine (including drum rotation during was cycle) but spin cycles don't work. Any ideas?

Thanks

It'll be motor related, thats exactly what mine was doing. It'll either be the motor or if you are lucky the brushes, check them out :)
