Hi,
Yes the same old question but I have a dilemma, I can't decide between the following two models:
Plasma - LG 42PG6010
1366 x 768
1500 cd/m
30,000:1
4 x HDMI

LCD - Toshiba 42XV555DB
1920 x 1080
500 cd/m
25,000:1
3 x HDMI

What I will be using it for is mainly Freeview, PC Input to watch Blu-Ray movies with the occasional PC use. I have a budget of approx £600 and I can get both for around this figure.
What should I go for and why? Any views welcome!
Cheers.

In theory, the LG will look slightly better on standard definition sources (Freeview).
The Toshiba is a 1080p panel , so you will get better results when viewing Blu-Ray.

However, I have zero experience with either set, because we don't sell those makes at my store.
You should really go and view them if your going to be picky about it.

But the PX80 is only 1024 x 720 isn't it, so what makes the picture quality better?

Stop counting pixels, there is a lot more to the picture than this. As said the blacks will be better than the others, smoother panning during fast scenes, etc.

Pixels and contrast ratios are the last things you should be looking at (unless you sit about 5ft away and willl be using it for PC desktop use and web browsing etc).

OK, ideal, but what about Blu-Ray films?

Again they will look better on the PX80 due to the better blacks and colour. Don't be pulled in by the "Full HD, 1080P zomgness!!!111".

Also you mention that you will be using Freeview a lot. The PX80 is one of the best SD handling TV's out there next to the Pioneers.

How does the TH-PX80 compare to the LG PG6010 then please?

The PX80 will be better. Take a gander over at AVForums in the Plasma Televisions section. There are huge threads on the PX80, think they needed to make 3 of them because they got too full of people commenting on it.
