There is a bus between the two camps every 30 mins.

There are tours conducted either for free with the entry price or a small extra.

Its not a lot (A few £ at most) and it 100% goes to the up keep of the place.

Easyjet arn't the only ones that fly out there, we usually use wizz air. But LOT, BA, etc do go there too.

Try looking for flights into Katowice, its a converted miltary airport and its closer to Auschwitz.

2Km, best way to travel to the camps and between them is to hire a taxi for the day (assuming your staying in Krakow). It's a fair drive there, an hour or so I think but the taxi hire was really cheap and most drivers are friendly and will give you info on the surrounding as you pass them.

Cheers Guys!

Is it possible to do both camps in one day? Or would you reccomend a day at each?

Easily do both in one day, there isn't actually much to see at the second camp as most of the buildings were burnt down/destroyed.

Got to the first camp to read all the history etc then pop along to the second to see it (really only need an hour in the second max).

If you do plan a trip over there I'd also recommend checking out the salt mines, fairly interesting.

I spent the best part of a day wandering around Auschwitz alone, so it might be best to give yourself a day for each site (just so you can take everything in)...but obviously it's up to you what you decide :)

Been myself a few years back when at school on a history week trip touring Germany & Poland, harrowing place to visit, hope no one finds this offensive but they still had a gas chamber their which we where shown around by the guide the thought of being stood their where many people have been murdered makes you realise how lucky we are to be in a world where peace exists and what generations have thought for to keep.

Salt mines close by are awesome not far from Krakow the sculptures are immense - which is a place you'd have to visit if you ever went.

A lot of people have mentioned these salt mines! Are they worth a visit? I reckon i'm going to try and go next year at some point, does anyone have any suggestions as to what time of year is best to go?

Not darn sarf
Yeah, i heard about the salt mines! Might look into them as well

I found it a massive let down. Its approaching £80 just to get in and its just a commercialised cave. Do yourself a favour and get to Lodz, Warsaw, or Katyn. The Saltmine was a big waste of time and money.

Auchwitz itself I was surprised by. The first part - the museum, was again a bit too museumy and artificial for me. tThere were some moving parts; the Courtyard with the wall, the gallows, but I came away felling it was somehow staged.

But....the Berkenau site really effected me and hit me like a train. After 5 minutes the whole place really hangs heavy on your soul, if there is anywhere haunted then that has to be it. If there is anywhere you should not miss then it has to be Berkenau - don't miss it.
