Need an app from US iTunes. How to get it in the UK?

Hi guys. Is there a way to get an application from the US iTunes store? The one I'm after is not available in the UK.

You will need an american card and a american account IIRC.

I had a look around and from what I can see it may be possible to get US apps when redeeming US iTunes gift cards (opening US account at the same time, without US credit card).

Anybody tried this?

Don't you need a valid US card to open the account in the first place, before you can redeem your gift card?

Well I tried it yesterday and it worked.

If you try to download any free apps from US store you will be asked to log in or open new account. Because you chose a free app, you will get the "none" option when you get to the payment page.
Provide US address. Note: some US states charge tax on itunes; choose Oregon or Florida addresses, they don't charge tax.
Once your account is activated you will be able to download free apps from US store or pay for apps with US iTunes gift cards.
I bought two $15 US iTunes gift cards from ebay yesterday and it worked.
